Mix Help please

Post by geo » Thu Nov 06, 2008 6:55 am

Hi Guys.....Nother one I just remixed.... all comments welcomed.... but two specific.....1. Synth Guit sound/solo.... works?2. Is my Kick thumpin' too much? I am going for a "club" style mix so I want the drums prominent but did I push it up too much?Thanks... Geohttp://www.taximusic.com/download/97855/....0he%20know_.mp3The Sheperd (Little did he know)Lyrics and music by George Daniels© 2008The Sheperd sat at Fireside, sipping on his beer,Little did he know that the wolves were lurking near,Little did he know that a friend was not a friend,Little did he know but soon he’d understand. What started out as one thing quickly led to another,They took what they wanted but had to push it farther. The cold, hard steel felt good in their hands,And they relished the power over a helpless man.Would you fight for your life, would you beg for mercy?Would you struggle to survive, would you offer all your money?Would you try and make a stand, would you even stand a chance? We all know how these stories end.The Sheperd spent 18 hours lashed to a cross,When they asked Dopey why, all he said was just because. But little did he know he’d never be free to hunt again,Little did he know but soon he’d understand. What started out as one thing quickly led to another,But now the wolves were trapped I think they even blamed their Mothers. The cold, hard fact remains you hit him again and again,Now it’s time to pay the piper, for your blood stained hands. The Shepard died to wash away your sins.SoloWould you fight for your life, would you beg for mercy?Would you struggle to survive, would you offer all your money?Would you try and make a stand, would you even stand a chance? We all know how these stories end.His name was Matthew, Bro everybody misses you,Sorry to say but there's more and more like you,Martyred they're with us no longer, The dreams of the King were s'posed to take us higher But we stalled, the mountain too tall,Caught up in our own shit couldn't answer the call,Worried bout the bling bling and silly things,But little did we know the wolves never stopped stopped hunting. The Sheperd sat at Fireside, sipping on his beer,Little did he know that the wolves were lurking near,Little did he know that a friend was not a friend,Little did he know but soon he’d understand. The Sheperd sat at Fireside, sipping on his beer. The Sheperd sat at Fireside, sipping on his beer. The Sheperd sat at Fireside, sipping on his beer.

This is good Geo.Good story and message.Drums sound fine to me.Guitar works too.The only thing that hit me was a string buzz at "wolves" on the second line of the first verse.Other than that though I thought it was excellent!Dave.

I think the mix kicks butt! There might some some eq cuts you can make that could be competing with the vocals but that's about it. Very cool!

Hey Geo:- I liked this mix on my medium duty sony headphones. I might be missing the low bass content. Good punch on that kick though!- A couple spots where the sung lyric differs from the typed text, and I like what was sung, so good call- Maybe put just a tiny bit more techno in the intro...just a bit bigger taste of what's to come? I dunno...a single bass drum note around 0:23 to set the stage? Just a perception thing on my part. Something that tells me "here's how this song is gonna go down". From your comments I knew it was in there, but the clean intro was throwing me for a few moments. (not hard to confuse me, I admit )- I'd say the solo starting around 2:07 could be a bit louderLovin' this groove Geo...the bass line is cool too! Took me a few listens to get into the lyric...but I did. It's a good story, and well said.
Earplugs may be required for anyone over the age of cool.

Mix sounds great to me. I think the solo should be louder though. Cool song! I think it grows on you! I liked it better the 2nd time I heard it. Love the harmonies. Bass is there but I can't say anything about the sound because I'm listening on these little computer squeakers. I just finished the 3rd listen and I like it even better now. Great Job!!KitzKitz

Thanks for the listen guys!!!!Dave - heard that buzz.... will fix...Bill - thanks for the EQ cuts thing.... I'll check that out.... that's where I cut frequencies that are the same as are prominent on the vocal track so the vocal comes through clearer... right?Devin & Kitz - bass could come up a bit.... I have the live bass lower more like a melody in the higher registers and a keyboard bass accenting the kick....Solo up a tad too... no probs... I wasn't sure it would pass muster so I was hiding it a bit ...Thanks again!!!Peace, Geo

Kind of a REM sound. I'm digging it. I did have to drop 5 db off my board to keep it out of the red. You can add a spectrum analyzer to a send to figure out which frequencies are stomping the vocs. You may want to try some different compression to even out the vocs. May work.
