You Do It Right - Allen/Wood

Post by soundsgreat » Sat Nov 08, 2008 4:46 pm

Hey All.....Have been working on this track with Letha Allen and Mark Kaufman, and we're up to the final arrangement before mixdown.Any general comments would be most welcome. There's small glitches here and there, but that should be correctable. Basically, does it sit right ? All hard a** comments appreciated. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... 7053502You Do It Right (c) Allen/Wood 2008 All rights reserved.Vocalist ; Letha AllenLyrics ; Letha AllenMusic ; Geoff WoodGuitar ; Mark KaufmanProducer ; Geoff WoodYou Do It RightIntro:Mmm, Babe(you do it right)Aw yea, you do it so rightGotta testify(you do it right)If you got someoneGives you so much loveGotta shout it outGonna raise my handAnd tell this landWhat this loves aboutChorus:(Do it right)Gonna wake up in the morning and testifyThis is how it is when you do it right(Testify)Nothin in the world that I would changeDo what you do, you do it rightGot everythingAnyone could needDon’t do withoutMy heart has wingsFrom the love you bringGotta let it outChorus:(Wings to fly)Wake up in the morning with wings to flyThis is how it is when you do it right(do it right)Nothin in the world that I would changeDo what you do, then do it again(Fly so high)Wake up every morning with wings to flyThis is how it is when you do it right(Do it right)Nothin in the world that I would changeDo what you do, you do it rightBridgeIf you got someoneGives you so much loveGotta shout it outGonna raise my handAnd tell this landWhat this loves aboutOh Babe,You do it so right(do it right, do it right, do it right)Oh yeaYou do it right(Do it right, do it right, do it right)(Fly so high, fly so high, fly so high)(Testify, testify, testify)(Do it right, do it right, do it right)D(wings to fly)Wake up every morning with wings to flyThis is how it is when you do it right(do it right)Nothin in the world that I would changeDo what you do, then do it again(testify)Wake up every morning and I testifyThis is how it is when you do it right(do it right)Nothin in the world that I would changeDo what you do, you do it rightcheers, niteshift

Hey niteshift! I'm living up to your forum name, by listening after midnight here. That's good karma, right?!?- Overall, I like the groove of the song- awesome vocal intro...nice!- Found the drums a bit quiet at times, such as at 0:25- Is there anything else planned to differentiate the chorus a bit? On my second listen now, and it's obvious to me now when verse ends and chorus begins...but on first listen, I didn't always catch the switch.- I like the "choir treatment" for the bridge, but the two groups seem just a bit too far apart. I'm thinking a bit more 'verb on the lead, or a bit less on the group, to put them in the same room?- Like the guitar solo alot from 3:01 onwards, fits this groove perfect as the song winds down.As always, this is just my $0.02 on this tune...I love theenergy and message here, and the vocal performance is great Letha!!Is there a target listing you're aiming for?

Greetings.... I'm guessing you guys are going for a cross genre type of thing.... I dunno if it works for me I'm sorry to say....All the performances are good and I like the lyrics, and they're sung great..... I just don't know if they mesh... I think it might be the acoustic for me.... maybe keys would tie everything together more.... not sure.... just my impression.... maybe more of a motown feel on the production.... Sorry again.... Peace, Geo

Hey Devin,Thanks for the ffedback. I'll check those reverb settings and try to get it a little tighter. No particular target here, just done on spec for some enjoyment. I'm still trying to find a genre for it. Thanks again,Hey Amp, that's cool mate, glad you could have a listen, and throw foward an opinion anyways.cheers, niteshift

Nice tune,I think the reverb on the cymbals is keeping me from hearing the space between the notes. Would love to hear some horns and maybe less acoustic gtr rhythm. Maybe trying an electric gtr playing chords on upbeats instead of acoustic would give it more of a soul/rb sound.Just my 2 cents - I love the vocal and the guitar hook - some horns would really do that riteous.Sounds like a good song. Arrangement will be key IMO.Cheers,Kitz
