Vodka and Smoke

Post by jchitty » Tue Nov 04, 2008 8:26 am

Elser (skull boy, hehe) and I just co-wrote this tune "Vodka and Smoke" together...it was a pleasure working with Els...he's extremely talented, and I am really pleased with the results. We're gonna make an independent pitch to an artist outside of TAXI (won't say who right now), but I'd also like to pitch it to various listings...I've seen listings for tunes along the lines of Steely Dan, Al Jarreau, Billy Joel, etc...this has a pop jazz feel to it...any thoughts? http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.p ... d=2572Here are the lyrics:Vodka and SmokeVerse 1I'm stuck here in MiamiAnd you're there in L. A.Friday nights at the Sea StarHelp me drink you all awayDave here's the bartenderTonight, he looks a little tiredA double and a cigaretteAnd I'm drifting somewhere higherPrechorus and ChorusDo you remember that dayWe sailed in the bayOn a loaned out catamarandYour hair was flying in the windAnd your feet were laced with sandNow vodka and smokeVodka and smokeHelp me deal with all those memoriesOf you and me long agoAnd I really miss you, babyMore than you'll ever knowThat's why I'm lost in this hazeOf vodka and smokeVerse 2A cute girl in a sundressShe keeps smiling at meI could buy her a drink right nowBut you are all I seeHard to forget those good timesAnd all the fun we sharedWeekends on the Miami coastAnd nights in the warm spring air

Hey this is great Chits.Super production, vocals and guitar!I think it fits all those artists you mention, and more.AND it's got my name in it! I remember first hearing "When I'm Sixty Four"and getting a kick out of Paul McCartney singing my name, along with Vera and Chuck's, when I was about eleven, and now you've done it again! Best of luck with it.Dave

I get a kick out of having my name heard in a song too...."Dammit Janet!"

Paul and Liam...thanks so much for the encouraging words....your posts are making me really enthused about future pitchings. Elser's production is wonderful, I'll agree. He hired a vocalist for this one, and I don't know the vocalist's name. Elser is off the internet right now, but when he checks in later (could be a week) maybe he can give you the name of the vocalist.

I got a sense of Steely Dan here. VERY COOL, nice and warm in a Love Boatish way. My mind's production put an extra repeat of the 'Of you and me long ago" layered with the first s half step behind. That's just me though. Well done.dale

Hey, thanks, Bob and Dale for the listen...glad you both enjoyed it. Hmm, Dale, that extra repeat of the line 'of you and me long ago,' is possible. If we pitch this and one of the screeners points that out, that's something we'll think about.
