I Wiped the Dust Off My Good Shoes, a'las?
I get consistently high marks on this song...I've gotten quite a few 9's and a 10 too. In fact, this is one of my songs that's gotten some of my most favorable critiques ever. My problem with not getting forwards involves hitting the alas or the target. Because the song is a sort of a hybrid, a religious commercial country song, it's hard to target...it's a tough pitch. Think along the lines of "Angel With No Halo." I submitted this recently to the Josh Turner listing because he's done a few commercial country songs with a religious tone....do you think this could fly for the Josh Turner listing? The vocals sound more like Clint Black, I'll admit. I should have submitted it to the Gary Allan listing...I didn't think it would be a fit...that listings gone by now, sigh.

Chits,What a great song!! The melody in the verses is especially strong and really makes the song unique. To me when it gets to the chorus it sounds very Buck Owens.I agree that it might have had a shot at a Gary Allen listing. As for the Josh Turner listing, I would try it if you can spare the five bucks. I think the song is right for him but I wonder if the vocalist on your demo might hurt your chances. I feel the same way about some of my demos that Mike Kelley has sung on because his voice is a bit higher. I also think your demo makes your song sound VERY traditional, and that might hurt your chances at certain listings.I don't the religious overtones would hurt its chances too much. All in all though it's very good and I can see why you've gotten high marks. Well done!Cam

Hey, thanks, Cam...I agree, this song is very neo-traditional (and even old time traditional)....and like you, I've had a concern about the vocalist too....Josh has that rich baritone voice, and the vocalist here (don't know his name, I had this demo done with Beaird Music Group) has a higher range.Wish I'd thought of the Gary Allan listing...I just didn't think that would be a good fit, but since you and Ontario have made a case for it, you may be right. It's too late to submit to it now...maybe next time around when he pops up again.

Very well written. It really makes me think of Conway twitty. It is very traditional sounding but that could change with a different production.I have a slight problem with the meter of some of the lyrics : "I spent my time scrapping in bars". It may have just been how the singer related it but it felt somewhat awkward.Other than that I love the old sound. I grew up to this sound of country music and I miss it alot!!The lyrics are very strong and I can relate for sure.M~

This is very good Janet!!! This song is clearly going to be a game of "match the listing", because the other elements seem great. The hook is fantastic...wow. Well set up and delivered. The one line that caught my eye was "So I could sit into a pew". Not a show stopper by any stretch though.I wish I knew enough about the nuances of the genre to help you target the next listing. There was a recent listing for an "older mature artist" looking for songs appropriate to that demographic (it closed a few weeks ago...I don't remember if there were any a la's)My radar is turned on now for ya though...I'll be watching for matches along with you. This one deserves to be heard!
