Boogie

Post by wignelson » Mon Oct 27, 2008 4:26 am

This is a song about a savant who lives in the woods. I think a remake of this (with a better drum track and a voice like squids') might sound cool. Most of my tunes that tell a story are genderless. Makes no difference whether a male or female sings them. What think ye?http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplaye ... "Boogie"By Wig Nelson c. 2006(First Verse)Everyone tells me the boogie man's crazyBecause he talks to the treesBoogie says that it's people he talks toOnly nobody sees, him(Chorus)Boogie won't you bang on them eighty-eight keysBoogie won't you bang on them pleaseBoogie won't you bang on them eighty-eight keysBoogie won't you bang on them please(Second Verse)Boogie got mad and broke his pianoNow he's got nothin' to playHe just sits and he stares at the piecesTill the end of the day, oh(Chorus)(Refrain)The minister came on a Sunday to hear Boogie playHe heard him sing out through a crack in the doorBoogie don't live here today, oh (Chorus)(Third Verse)I wish that I had a pianoI'd sit you down on the stoolJust to hear what you play when you're thinkin'That you're nobody's fool(Chorus)(Fourth Verse)Everyone tells me the boogie man's crazyBecause he talks to the treesBut after he plays his pianoHe's got em' down on their knees(Chorus)

Hey wignelson!Yep! Drums need some work. And Squids would DEFINITELY knock this song out! That's not a knock against your singing, so don't take it that way. But you made the suggestion, so I'd be willing ta' bet that it would be a grand idea! She's got excellent range!I-468

I know everybody is busy now with the rally coming up. I'll probably PM squids after things get cooled down and see if she'll lend a hand.Wig

Wow, 35 listens and one reply. This kind of song is not to be taken seriously. It's just for fun. Or, I guess not.

Funny how our society puts such a focus on immediacy (<-- is that a word?!?). Your tune's been up for 24 hours, that's a lifetime in our digital age. I like the vibe here, and the swing of the chorus is great. The hook is memorable/sing-able (<-- another wrong word? Can someone write a book on this lyric stuff please? Oh, wait a minute )For me, I think the subject matter doesn't quite line up with feel of the song, leaving me "internally conflicted". The lyric seems a bit sad at first read...perhaps an "Aqualung" tone is implied...and then the music/melody has got some great swing to it...perhaps a "Burton Cummings" label is close enough to describe the +ve listening experience?I like the feel of the song...and I'm not afraid of sad stuff either...but not mixed together (I'm too simple to keep it straight).Just my $0.02 as usual...and getting time on Squids' calendar is never a bad idea (if you can get a spot, got for it!).P.S. Edited: I'm still singing that chorus...nice.

Edited: I'm still singing that chorus...nice.Thanks, Devin,Always nice to hear a friendly voice. I'm in favor of changing a lyric in a song if someone gives me a suggestion I can use. I'm a big fan of the re-write.This song had three flutes in harmony during the chorus and then I thought it was getting to big, so I took at least one out. Some songs want to make us change the world. Some make us want to change the channel. Hopefully, this one falls somewhere in between. Wig

hi wigs--this tune i can hear through and i hear very good, but to be totally honest, (always), the vocal does need to be someone else on this....needs a more jazzy presentation--you still have that very nice celtic vibe in your voice--great singing man--but not for this one!! swing it man, jazz it! yeah squidly might be a damn good choice, but you get my drift i hope!all the best, warrenps: on 2nd listen, in the chorus, damn man, i'm thinking just now to do just what your lyrics say--bang on them 88 keys!--maybe not literally, but let's here more damned piano jamming! yep, that i'm SURE of...LOL...but yep...xoxxowh

Intriguing flow. I like the story man. Yes, as you mentioned, drums could be done much better. But what you have is enough to get the point across. Vocally, well.. ..I think a better singer would really do this justice. Your voice isn't bad, but I'm not convinced when you are "telling" the story. A more accomplished singer could really nail this and put the emotion needed behind it. Believe me I'm no singer, so I have no room to talk, but I wouldn't mind hearing this story sung by a seasoned vocalist, and of course with better drums.Cool ideas here man. I love storytelling in songs. The chorus has some catchy qualities, I think you need just a little bit of a stronger hook though. I have to say, the more I listen, the music doesn't seem to fit the mood of the story. That could just be me, but I could hear this being slightly dissonant whilst still keeping the upbeat chorus. Thanks for sharing!

I don't have any trouble getting my head around the fact that my voice isn't right for all the songs that I write.I would love for another singer to collaborate with me, or someone totally cover this.Steve tickles the ivories pretty well as I'm sure many others here do also.It would be great to have a real piano player lay down a track for this. I have a music partner locally who plays pretty well. Maybe I'll take this in that direction and then make a play for MS squidley's pipes. Wig
