Is this any good? where should it go?

Post by elser » Tue Oct 28, 2008 9:18 pm

Calling all critics. I made this song with a friend about 6 years ago and it's just been sitting on my hard drive doin' nothin' ever since. Sometimes I listen to it and I like it and sometimes I listen to it and I think it kinda sucks. What do you think? If you like it, where should it go? I kind of think alternative rock but I'm not sure. Thanks, Elserhttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=1809 ... rueTrouble Brewin'I noticed that your smile’s friendly touch has gone away.I’ve never seen your eyes wandering that way.Suddenly unavailable, the calendar’s getting tight.I just can’t comprehend these changes overnight.I see trouble brewing, I think that I’m loosing a lover.I see trouble brewing, I think that we’re loosing each other. Why does it have to be this way?A frost lies on the vineyard today. You said you’d never leave me, said you never could. But deep down inside I knew someday you would. In time another love has taken you somewhere.I just can’t understand, baby how could you leave me here?I see trouble brewing, I think that I’m loosing a lover.I see trouble brewing, I think that we’re loosing each other..oh no!A taste of bittersweet from the keg. What looked good on the vine turned to waste.Solo –I see trouble brewing, I think that I’m loosing a lover, lover.I see trouble brewing, I think that we’re loosing each other..oh no!Why does it have to be this way? What looked good on the vine turned to waste…….I see trouble brewing. I see trouble brewing. I see trouble brewing.I see trouble brewing.

Hey Elser!I'm going to assume that you can't go back and tweak anything...it would either be sent out "as is", or you'd have to re-create from scratch? In that case, I would find a listing for alt rock like you said, or even crossover country and submit as long as there was a Taxi crit included...then you'd get some screener feedback too for your $5 along with the forward opportunity. It's a good song based on an accessible concept! There are a couple of spots you may decide to revisit...such as switching the phrasing of the line " A taste of bittersweet from the keg" so the word "taste" comes last, to rhyme with "waste" in the next line. Minor stuff for sure, but hard to do if you've changed music software in the last 6 years...or if the singer's voice has changed (or worse yet, moved away).
Earplugs may be required for anyone over the age of cool.

I heard a coupla' questionable notes played here & there, some from the rhodes, but overall I think it's a solid song. What category it belongs in, can't say. Perhaps what has been suggested, is appropriate. I'm never any good at categorizing all the different styles of rock, so you're on your own there. I think if you even kinda' like it, even just a little, you like it period. I like it, so there's definitely something about it to like. Also, no good with lyrics. I like the feel, & the groove of the tune. That's basically what I'm listening to. Nice acoustic guitar playing in there, when it comes in. I-468

Alternative Rock would be my first choice.Surprisingly, I like the vocals. You have some production issues here for sure and if you can go back and record and mix this one over, I certainly would, and I certainly think it would be worth the work. Vocals get buried at times, especially while everything is going off. The acoustic guitar sounds horrible man. Not the playing, just the sound. I would definitely do that over. The strings are a bit overbearing at times, and although I understand the climatic quality you are trying to bring to the mix with them, they overpower too much and just don't sit in there quite right.Don't take offense to any of that, I'm telling you your song is good. Go back and do it again to make it worth your while. The song may not get forwarded simply because of the production issues, but the song has a ton of potential man.I like it man and hear many catchy qualities. I would revisit this for sure. But, like I suggested, Alt. Rock would be the way to go. You gotsda talent bro. Go with it.

Hey Guys, thanks for the feedback. You've confirmed my instincts that say 'there's something here but it needs fixin'.I think I can remix it without much trouble, but the singer isn't available to me anymore. Thanks again, I was really looking for some specific things to focus on and you guys gave me that.Elser
