Where Did I Put God
This is a quirky, and I mean quirky song...it ain't country. This is one of those vague lyrics songs, sort of an inkblot test....be forewarned. I can't say it's written in any standard structure either....could this be an Indie pitch? Squiddy and I are thinking about revamping and co-writing it together in the future. These are my vocals, but we'd get Squids to sing the final demo.http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.p ... =2572Where Did I Put GodI'm a writer of talesA spinner of fictionA dandelion withoutAny convictionConviction just gets You nine to fiveWhere did I put God?Is God clashing Among the blues? The reds, the golds? The subtle huesHiding out with the MuslimsOr the JewsWhere did I put God?While terrified menBattle on the fields at nightAnd men of beliefPump the bellows of frightI fly highBut reach no greater heightWhere did I put God?ChorusThe soul wandersThe soul knowsThat Allah is out thereAmong the crowsIf I could only find himWith no fingers or toesI know I might find GodA sign saysHonk if you love the LordNear a shopping mallFor the chronically boredShoppers got too muchBut still want moreThat's where we put God

Re: Where Did I Put God
Quirky is the word, Chits. I like it a lot. Reminds me of an old blues rendition by John Hurt (I think) that had the same kind of vibe.Interesting chord progression. I see it as 4, 1, 4, 1, 5, 1 or something like that. Did you throw a 6 in there? Anyway it's cool the way you sing a blues approach to that one.Lyrics are cool. Love that "out there with the crows." Anything about crows is as cool as a moose. I looked up moose in the dictionary and it said, "See crows."This deserves a bit more production, not so much the vocals, but the arranger or "auto accompany" doesn't do it justice.I think this is a winner. The percussion is kind of addicting. Had to listen twice.Wig

"Honk if you love the LordNear a shopping mallFor the chronically boredShoppers got too muchBut still want more"I love this kind of stuff! I'm not gonna comment on your audio demo ( poor child, you know I love ya!) But these are really out there cool lyrics "That Allah is out thereAmong the crowsIf I could only find himWith no fingers or toesI know I might find God"Janet, I want some of what you're smoking and I want it NOW!

Re: Where Did I Put God
Hey, thanks, Wig and Bill Wig, I don't even know what chord progression it is....I just type in chords to Band In the Box, and that's how it arranges it. Of course, I have to know the chords to my song before creating a melody (I tap it out on my guitar), but Band In a Box does the rest. Sorry, I am so challenged when it comes to musicianship and production....I'm a songwriter who can barely play the guitar too. This is just a rough demo of course....there's no way I'd submit this, and if Squids and I co-wrote it, we'd definitely have a REAL demo done, hehe. Glad you like the lyrics...that's half the battle.LOL, Bill, yeah, my production is never that great....I am a poor child. I'm glad you love the lyrics...you and Liam (if you're reading Liam) have inspired me to try different stuff. I wish I had something to smoke since my in-laws are here for a week.Since you and Wig both like the crow line, here's what I meant by it, although, hell, this could end up like Horse With No Name, just put your own interp on it. I used "Allah" because in Christian America, that could be seen as pretty controversial....I used 'among the crows' because I think God is found in the smallest and darkest of places sometimes, not some fancy schmacy place. And there may not even be a God...just because I believe, doesn't make it so. And when I said, "If I could only find him with no fingers or toes, I know I might find God".... this line means that God is so much more than we human beings can perceive....sometimes, organized religion tries to put all kinds on attachments (fingers and toes) on people, demanding that they see God a certain way, but I think he's so much more than we can even fathom...hell, I can't even explain my own lyrics, you probably got them more than me, LOL.

Chits!I'm really impressed with this song. Great lyrics!! That Allah is out thereAmong the crowsIf I could only find himWith no fingers or toesI know I might find GodI think I get it!!With a low male voice singing I think it would sound like a Leonard Cohen song. (Leonard Cohen's "The Future" is a GREAT album if you ever want to hear what I mean). I think the Squidster would do an awesome job too.Cam

Re: Where Did I Put God
man oh man chits--to no surprise ma'am, i love your lyrics, and the music too--damn it's late, i don't smoke stuff, but good wine has its way of settin' in...i got the allah/crow line right off (damn, i MUST be nuts...LOL) and altho i love all the lyrics, i love the more out front verse about the colors you mention, and the muslims and the jews...one suggetion, but again, it's late, is the title line/hook, i keep hearing each time:where do we put god? or where do i put god--but each time...now who the hell can answer that? right, nobody!! but i'd find your hook line, and sink it, and don't change it..i know i know, it's often done just the other way around, but on this one....well, it's up to you...yes, we've talked about your vocals and production, but unlike SOME of our good friends here.... he said cautiously before meeting them at the rally...i know what you're doin' with the rough stuff, and no prob for me. it's the final result that matters...that's all i gots for tonight, and the "chronically bored" stanza is indeed splendid!!a personal thank you for delving into the "unique". no quirk IMHO, just plain interesting....but hell, my style/quirk has got me zero...i dig what you're doing here, and keep working on it please!the best, warren

Re: Where Did I Put God
Why am I hearing Johnny Cash singing this song? His voice jumped into me head as I was sitting here, may he rest in peace I know he found where ever you put Him (God that is), LOL! I love the pursuit of truth through songwriting, I'm feeling what your sayin here sis and man this song has some, SOME kinda depth to it... Oh I love this kinda "out of the box" deep! '-) wta
Music is like oxygen, you can live without it but not for very long...

Re: Where Did I Put God
Chits - I love your lyrics - they're creative and fit together in this odd sort of way that makes sense and yet doesn't! Great lyric stuff. Some thoughts - first, the hook comes out of nowhere (at least for me it does) at the end of the first verse.I'm a writer of talesA spinner of fictionA dandelion withoutAny convictionConviction just gets You nine to fiveWhere did I put God?That verse is so cool and then there's the hook and I'm wondering...what? Once you get further into the song you understand where the hook is coming from, but that first time it just sort of shows up.Also, your chorus seems to be more of a bridge in an AABA structured song where your hook is the last line of each verse. I'd keep any form of the hook out of that bridge. I'd actually shorten the bridge and take out that last line (or maybe even the last two lines). And I wouldn't dilute the hook by changing it. Where did I put God? is a great hook and it works just fine the way it is, even in the last chorus. When I was reading your lyrics, before listening to the song, I was expecting a Cat Stevens/Yusef vibe to the music, more of a singer/songwriter feel with not such a happy bouncy melody (beyond the Band in a Box groove, the melody is really cheerful for such a deep subject). You've got meat in this lyric and might want to explore a different melodic approach to it?Great work!Claire

Re: Where Did I Put God
I'm dyslexic with the words "chorus" and "verse" - I meant in the last verse.Where did I put my brain?
