Path Of Sorrow
I wrote dis tune for the singer/songwriter stuff I do live and I've had some really great crowd response. It's called Path of Sorrow which is addressing the global injustice issues relating to massive starvation and disease coupled with the rich getting richer off the flawed system. In fact the global wealthy are just in recent weeks publically addressing how they're going to chop up the "financial crisis" winnings (700 billion to be handed to the rich JUST in the US/not including the rest of the G-20 countries). So it's a la's 60's but 21 century style...http://www.williamthomasanderson.com/im ... ow.mp3Path of Sorrow Words and Music by William Thomas Anderson Copyright 2008Capo 5th fret Verse 1EIn the corner of my eyeC D EI can see the light of a new dayEYet another day C D Efilled with questions without answersEFrom the crack of your cryC D EAnother lullaby of heartache EIt’s just another song C D Efilled with verses but without an endingChorus 1A C G EOooh ya, gonna leave the path, the path most traveled byA C G EOooh ya, gonna leave the ways of this world long behindA C G EOooh ya, gonna leave the path, the path of the wised blindA C G AOooh ya, gonna take the path of sorrowVerse 2EFalling from the skyC D EAre the dreams and hopes of so manyEIt’s just another time C D ETo be erased from historyETruth at odds with liesC D EThose with more take from the needyEThey got another smile C D EOvershadowing the pain of this worldChorus 2A C G EOooh ya, gonna leave the path, the path most traveled byA C G EOooh ya, gonna leave the ways of this world long behindA C G EOooh ya, gonna leave the path, the path of the wised blindA C G AOooh ya, gonna take the path of sorrow C G ATake the path of sorrow (x3)BridgeE F# E F# E F# A B (x2)Chorus 3A C G EOooh ya, gonna leave the path, the path most traveled byA C G EOooh ya, gonna leave the ways of this world long behindA C G EOooh ya, gonna leave the path, the path of the wised blindA C G AOooh ya, gonna take the path of sorrow C G ATake the path of sorrow (x3) Thanks for all your help to date and thanks in advance with any feedback on lyric, structure and production both positive and corrective...

Re: Path Of Sorrow
For some reason this reminded me of a Tenacious D style song. Very anti/folksie/protest/sit-in style. San Francisco in the late 60's. Groovy!Dale

Hey William!I think Dale hit it with your chord progression... it's got a Tenacious D flair to it at the beginning anyway... which I thought was pretty cool, especially combined with your White Stripes-esque vocal delivery. For me, the song was pretty good, but with some solid production/instrumentation work would be a ton better. I think adding a full band after the first time through the chorus could really turn the production on its ear, and you could go in a bunch of different directions -- straight up rock, grunge/emo, etc... even country. But IMO the guitar by itself won't hold up for the whole song, and needs a more finished sound as it progresses. This is a song that really could be as cinematic as you want it to be, and I could also hear this as a fully orchestrated piece similar to what other rock bands have done like Guns 'n' Roses (I know it's a bad example, but I can't think of anyone more appropriate).Ok.... now in it's current state, I like the chords, the vocals, the structure, the message... but the solo guitar you have in there is slightly out of tune and throws the whole thing off a bit. With the instrumentation you have, I think more could have been done with it -- changing up rhythmic patterns a bit, arpeggiating, riffing, etc. You did some, but I think you could do more and get away with it.And when it comes to Taxi, make sure to examine whether or not song length, solos, and other instrumental parts will end up biting you in the end, and tighten up as necessary. And there is a perfect easy cut right before the solo if you need to save time!Hope that helps, and I enjoyed the listen!

I'm gonna ditto Zoom. I wanted to hear this "bust in big" at around 1:00 in. I know that it's kind of what's expected but sometimes that's the way to go.

Well Dubya im gonna say that I hear Pearl Jam and SoundGarden in this.Seeing that your Around Seattle Im not surprised. Lyrically I hear Cornell. Vocally I hear a Vetter inspiration.I really liked the feel. As a S/S presentation I can feel it. I would also like to hear the full band kick in with one of those Matt Cameron offbeats and Stone Gossard Bluesy grunge riffs. Im not saying copy those styles but I think you know what I mean. Towards the end belt out some of those powerful Cornell vocal things. Anyway thats what I hear so I say run with it!! But thats some of my fav music ever. It makes me smile to hear similarities. I miss that stuff!Cool song idea man!M~

hey willy--i dig it, and can hear what you'll probably do with it, agree with the "expectations" of getting bigger, but i say leave this one as is, a bit better produced (like you can do man), and then go for the more kickin' tune. my vote, have 2! ooh yah!!the best, warren

Warren, Yes, two... That it THE plan mate, perfect direction. It's funny I'm still trying to wrap my head around the commercial side. Typically I think singer/songwriter, write and album, tour the album and promote the album but with film/tv/catalog work this is an whole new world, bloody hell you can have 2 or more cuts for the same song HOW CAN YOU BEAT THAT! When you build a house you sell it and then build another, one at a time so to speak but with songwriting we can build a house but have it be 2 or more AND we can licence it to many buyers over the life of the song. I am the biggest fan of residual income and songwriting/catalog works are without a doubt a goldmine (provided they're broadcast quality). Man I love taxi's model AND this and all the amazing feedback from you cool cats on this forum! '-) wta

Re: Path Of Sorrow
Cool song William,I ditto what was said earlier and this is a song worth producing. I love the genre and as you know, write in it as well.Good vocal inflections that draw in the listener.Remember when you are using a capo, the chords change from the positions you are playing. Here is what I hear in the chorus: D C G A Oooh ya, gonna leave the ways of this world long behind . . . etc.Play it without a capo and that's what the chords sound like. Wig
