How Pale the Moon

Post by Mark Kaufman » Wed Oct 15, 2008 10:40 am

Here's a new collaboration with the Couchgrouch. Any and all suggestions are very welcome. Thanks!http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6976779How Pale the MoonHow pale the moonStill upon the western mountaintops and watching from the skyLike a silver eyeHow smooth the hairCurving like an auburn river down your shoulders ‘round your breastAs we get undressedLove will shine its timeless lightUnder blankets of the nightHow soft the kissFirst upon your shoulders with my eyes, my hands, my fingertipsThen my tender lipsHow warm the windThat will dry our kisses as we lay here in the sand tonightBy the riversideLove will shine its timeless lightUnder blankets of the nightThere are moments when a lover, will surrender to the otherAnd no whisper is as tender, as the sigh before surrenderHow pale the moonWalking home while list’ning to a nightingale’s sweet serenadeTo the love we madeHow smooth the hairAs you lay beside me in the resting shadows of our roomAnd how pale the moon…how pale the moonLove will shine its timeless lightUnder blankets of the nightHow pale the moonHow pale the moon…©2008 Robert George and Mark Kaufman

man! Mark & George, it's not easy to write a great timeless song but I think you've done it.

Wow, Steve and Bill... Thanks!Well, I know which three words are going to be echoing around in my brain all night. You'll turn me into a snotty little primadonna with that kind of talk...must ignore...must ignore... Well, here's what I think so far...vocals up a notch, same with drums, and lose the meandering instrumental bit after the first chorus and go right into the second verse. Any other structural or mixing suggestions? Too reverby?Lyrics are all good, as usual with Robert. ...must ignore bill's post... (Thanks guys, you made my day. )

Mark, I was going to mention that I thought there could be a "shorter" reverb but it's so subjective I just didn't say anything. I think these days unless you're going for a retro thing it's always safer to er on the side of less reverb.

Has a Lyle Lovett/Robert Plant feel to it. Strange combo but sounds really nice.

I'm not going to tell you that the recording is fabulous. I think the song, ie: melody, lyric and vibe are as good as good gets. I think someone could make something very famous out of this song. I had to listen again, there is something really special about it.
