The Last Ride (Looking for a genre)
This is a collaboration between myself and Tony Faiola from Pittsburgh, PA. It is sung from the POV of a lost loved one.http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tream=true “ The Last Ride” by Tony Faiola & Wig Nelson c.2006 (Intro)( 1st Verse)In my way I tried to show youHow good it was to know youAnd how it felt to ride by your side(2nd Verse)In my way I told you not to hurryI told you not to worryEverybody cries on the last ride(1st Verse)(2nd Verse)(Refrain)There’s something more that I wanted to sayHere’s to our dreams when we’re back in the dayNow dry those tears from your eyeI’ve got a place I can wait for my ride(1st Verse)In my way I tried to show youHow good it was to know youAnd how it felt to ride by your side

Hi WigVery pretty... You have a very nice singing voice & the piano and flute are also very pretty. I'd say Adult Contemporary (AC). The structure is unusual with the instrumental passages coming in early. That doesn't mean bad, but I don't know if pros would suggest you go with a more conventional structure. The bridge doesn't come in until around 2 minutes which means there isn't a melodic change up for quite a while. When a song has no chorus, it needs a powerful bridge and I'm not sure you don't need to get to that sooner. This is mainly thinking out loud here... Listening a few times, it feels more like the title is "In My Way", those being the words that repeat in a way that sticks with you.It might be my cheap headphones here but I hear some distortion with the flute. Nice stuff... Very pleasant to listen to a few times as I have... Casey

Hey Wig.... this is singer/songwriter IMO.... it can't really be placed anywhere else, though it does have a great inspirational message. But I think this song suffers a bit from an identity crisis because of the large instrumental sections. I think you could easily make this into a lovely instrumental or a cool song... but trying to do both loses the message for me.Cheers

Hi Wig, hope it's OK to chime in here. This is lovely, the bridge is beautiful. I'm afraid I can't put my finger on any particular genre. Perhaps if it leaned into pop it would remind me of something like Daniel Powter "Best of Me" but it would need a set of drums to back it up! Though even without, this is very pretty. "In My Way" is nice, I thought that a tiny delay might draw more attention to "the last ride" I certainly enjoyed the listen.Linzi

Hey Wig, very pretty song. I think this would go into the singer/songwriter slot. I don't hear anything that bugs me about the piece & I agree with Paul . . . sounds perfect for a "chick-flick" soundtrack to me.

Thanks, Casey, for the support and advice. I'll try A/C and Singer/Songwriter both and maybe get lucky. This last mix was done by my collaborator and I don't have the file to work with, so I'll probably submit it as is, possibly with a name change as you suggest. Thanks, Zoom, The structure does give it an identity crisis, but the way songs are cut up in film, it just might fly. I might as well try. Thanks Linziellen, Please, chime in anytime. Good to hear from you. Since you like "In My Way" also, I think I'll ask my co-writer if he could get behind the name change. Thanks, Paul, I'm really glad you like the tune. Thanks, Bill,I'd love to see this one placed in a "chick flick." I'm glad that you don't have any real problems with it the way it is. Maybe I'll get lucky and get a forward.
