Re: Acoustic Guitar Instrumental, Please Review...
Hey William,Nice tune!Another suggestion: conceive your piece as you want it to be at the beginning of the process, particularly mood-wise and also for instrumentation. Record it as a full piece and then see what can be taken out and still retain the mood of the piece while providing a few different options. This way, you work on and finish one piece and then you can move on to the next one without continuing to think about what you can add to the original to change it up. IMO, having a catalog of pieces that can be broken down is more useful than trying to pitch several versions of one piece. Production notes: The guitar does sound nice. I'm particularly sensitive to compression and it sounds like you're using an effects processor that has compression mixed in with the chorusing. The compression makes the guitar sound slightly "pingy" to my ears. The chorusing is mixed in nicely and it gives a pleasant almost 12 string sound to the guitar but the compression seems to take a bit of the bounce out of the vibe for me. It's more of a personal taste thing. Also, the end user may add their own compression to your piece and if it is going to be broadcast, it will be compressed for sure. Try backing off on the compression just a little bit and see if it makes it feel a bit warmer and softer (not in volume but in the way it feels to the ear), which would fit the vibe of the piece more, IMO.If you play the same thing at the end without slowing down and end on that chord, it will work nicely.I've heard there's a fair amount of demand for acoustic guitar pieces in the library world. I'd explore this avenue if I were you, I think you'll do well with it.Cheers!!Mazz

mazz, yes there's a touch of compression that could easily backed off of but no chorus effects at all, just a VERY light bit of verb, good ears mate I'm impressed. I got the acoustic direction from Michael so I can't take credit for it but he was a REALLY big help with ideas, thats a guy who knows the biz and my advice to anyone it pay close attention to Michael Laskow and to anyone he recommends to listen too including mazz, Casey, Dave, Humingbird/Vikki and others... Utube taximusic if a goldmine as well. Oh and mazz I've got a version with the ending as you'd like to hear it and I'm going to switch it asap. Where were you guys when I was young and in my prime, too bad the internet is such a new thing!

Man, I'm fairly old but feel like I'm just hitting my prime!! I'll catch the new version later tonight if it's up!I think the reverb time on your piece is such that it holds on to the notes long enough to make it sound a little like doubling. I was listening in my headphones which makes it easier to hear reverb sometimes (Ultrasone 650s). It almost sounded like a 12 string in some parts, subtle but cool!Good stuff!!Mazz

mazz, off topic how are the Ultrasone 650s? I've been using Song MDR V600 and have been very happy but I'm always looking for the best headphones possible as I'd like to keep my hearing a least till I'm a total hack, sooner than later maybe)...

hey william--i'm no guitar player (as you know LOL) but this is way cool, clean and to the point.but i thought the ending was just fine, actually an interesting change up (down?...) hell, you did end on a high NOTE! LOL.on the other "versions" issue. IMHO because you CAN play, having one or two more of these in your arsenal would be about right--you never know what they might come asking for. but no more than that.the best, warren, (your non musician friend...)

I'm old AND past my prime! This is excellent William.Great guitar sound!I like to hear a guitar on it's own, if it sounds as good as this. You could maybe add other instruments, so you have alternate versions to submit, but keep this one as is - with that new ending!Well done,Dave.

Re: Acoustic Guitar Instrumental, Please Review...
hein, you've got music coming outta every orphace mate, "Not musical"! What was the musical fruit again? No, but serious you write great tunes and if thats not musical what the heck is? Dave, I really am grateful you like what you hear and that you took the time to say so, it mean alot mate. I'll keep the ending as is but have a second version as well that stays the mood to the end. The more the marrier as they say. I'm blessed to have a studio and the time to make it all right, the old days ment a clock and a studio manager placing boot to butt at the end of the dollar... Oh the good old days... '-) wta

I could 'picture' this in a car commercial. I have only one suggestion is to watch the notes on the higher end stings as they sounded a bit more pucked -- a tad bit too loud and abtrusive.Other than that, nice work.Dale
