Ghost Ship's Parade

Post by wignelson » Wed Oct 08, 2008 3:03 am

I sure would like to find a listing for this one. It's sort of Celtic and sort of folk.Mild Bill even alluded to covering it on his upcoming CD "Ships of Wood."That would be super because I admire the production skills employed in his work. But anyway, here is the song. The intro is too long for a TAXI submission and it is not broadcast quality.Thought I'd get that out of the way. But I think you'll like the lyrics.http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tream=true Ghost Ship’s Parade By Wig Nelson c. 1992I am an old clipper – best of the dayOff on a holiday cruise up the bayWind in the rigging – flags in the skyIf I were a man there’d be tears in my eyeOnce I had a sister and faster was sheA half day behind her was all I could beA great reef down-under ripped through her keelA night when a fool took his turn at the wheel(Chorus)All of the blue sea – always been a friend to meAll of the blue sea – always been a friend to meOnce I knew a runner – guns for the warThe British were dealing him fire from their boreIt’s sad when I think of the difference we’ve madeHere at the head of the ghost ship’s paradeOnce I knew a captain – born on the seaEyes for the pretty maid – soul to be freeHere’s to the battles he fought at my sideAnd one to his health as he’s off on the tide(Chorus)Once I knew a slaver – and many men diedA black hearted tallyman counted their criesThe soul of the trader is lost to the wavesThe devil might sing to you those were the daysI’ve seen all the kingdoms rise up and fallThere must be a reason I’ve lived through it allSend me the children and raise up the sailAnd gather ‘round close as I whisper the tale(Chorus)All of the blue . . .All of the blue . . .All of the blue . . .All of the blue . . .

That's pretty good... head 'em off at the pass. You know, IMHO, this is VERY close to broadcast quality if not maybe there. You've recorded to your strengths, live guitar and vocals. If you had a way of backing off on the reverb on your vocals to make it not so "wet", I'd be giving this a definite "broadcast quality" stamp. This is a thought too... if you had thrown in your strings and other older samples, those would have pulled this track away from broadcast quality. So sometimes that label isn't so hard to reach... it may be a matter of what you don't include, as much or more as what you do include.Anyway, I'm just commenting on "production" issues as an instrumentalist, not the genre issue you're really looking for. I'll leave the podium and make way for someone in the songwriting field to answer that question. Dave

Bump Bump!I'm fishing for a listing suggestion, please. It has been commented that this is near broadcast quality by Dave, and Geo says he loved it.Can anyone suggest a Film/TV listing to submit this one to?Should I call TAXI and ask for a suggestion? It's about the old clipper ships who are ghosts now, but I don't think of this as haunting music.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, WigAll There Is Latin Mixhttp://www.songramp.com/mod/mps/viewtrack.php?trackid=67621
