Dangerous Days

Would this be suitable for Adult Contemporary? Here is the link and the listing:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... rueLISTING -- ADULT CONTEMPORARY SONGS in the wide range of Michael Bolton, Barbara Streissand, Seal, Annie Lennox, Peter Gabriel, Sting, Whitney Houston, Josh Groban, Celine Dion, etc. are wanted by an established Music Publisher in Los Angeles. This company specializes in Film/TV and has signed & secured placements for many TAXI members. While the stylistic approach can be widely varied, they'll be looking for original songs that have a "timeless" quality and overall tone - no covers, please. Lyrics should be universal enough as to apply to a variety of situations/scenes/characters. Performances and the sound quality must be excellent (solid demo recordings are okay as long as the quality is there). They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal - you keep your original copyrights. Broadcast quality needed. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received by November 10, 2008.TAXI # S081110AC

Beautiful piece Wig With the artists listed, I think it might be a bit of a stretch for the listing. I'm not looking at any one artist for clues, but what all of those artists have in common... which is light rock with big hooks and even bigger voices.I know that you've been frustrated with finding the right listing for your tunes. One of the things that I might do is contact the folks over at Taxi about particular listings, tell them about your style and "a la's" you have and see what they say. I think that would at least take out some of the guess work you and possibly solidify the core attributes the client is after. Also, that would eliminate listening to the forum folks (who are off on the sidelines) like me who always seem to have differing opinions. Afterall, you don't need MY opinion, you need Taxi's.I hope that helps... best to you and your quest!

Hey Wig, this is a nice tune but to me it falls more into a folk-like vibe. I know, this can be very frustrating. Maybe you could spring for a couple of custom ctitiques and specifically ask the screener to tag you with some "alas".

I was just hoping to hit the right listing and have one of the forum members say, yeah it has a chance.I'll probably do just what you suggest and they'll tell me that there is a genre for me to submit to, but it only comes around once a year or so. That's cool. For me, it's about what, not when. Wig

As you know, when you submit, you can't say diddley sqaut, which is understandable with the submissions they get.

hey wigs."as they turn down the lights all their dreams are the same"--f-ing great man,i love this tune, no offense (obviously!) but reminds me a bit of billy wren's music--a compliment!this is an important piece of music, but i have NO idea where it fits. with the big instrumental in the middle, just have no idea, but it's a very quality piece of music. the custom will probably tell you something like it's for film/tv, and that's ok. or some kind of folk for sure....and i'd like to hear your (yours?) vocal a bit clearer, and the rest of the mix just a bit (tiny tiny ) set back a bit....dig the song, find a place for it!!all the best, proud of you...warrenps: was in st. johns in april for my oldest daughter's wedding, beautiful place...xoxox

As you can probably tell, it's about he Florida manatee. I would love to give this song away to the Save The Manatee foundation, but the patches in the big instrumental are pretty weak. They would probably pass on it.Like a lot of my songs, I don't know where it belongs. It's too long for a PSA (public service announcement) sponsored by some company. (Yamaha outboards comes to mind, LOL)I'm a real sucker for the big instrumental in the middle. I would do better to resist them until I can expand my library of voices. Thanks again, Wig

Hey Wig,You've got talent... just need to find a venue for your material. I hear that Irish folk vibe through most of your tunes... and I hear both Gordon Lightfoot and Donovan in your singing. As far as your productions go, to my ears it's usually the strings that need work in your songs. That's why I mentioned needing the mild Bill (Wren) treatment in the other thread. His strings are always first rate, so maybe he'll chime in with some of his secrets.I have a feeling if you stick with Taxi-- and keep refining your material based on feedback you get from this forum and critiques-- that in a couple of years you'll be knocking them out of the park.Cameron

Really nice tune Wig.... I would maybe do a more stripped down version.... you said it yourself...Quote:I'm a real sucker for the big instrumental in the middle. I would do better to resist them until I can expand my library of voices.Pull the strings and stuff back in the mix a bit so they're more accents.... maybe strip them down a bit..... go for a more singer/songwriter vibe.... shorten the instrument breaks.....Now BTW I'm not saying trash this... this is really good.... keep this until you get the toys....But for now... go for a "live" sort of feel.... play to your strengths..... Thanks for the listen!!Peace, Geo

I listened to mild Bill's work on Broadjam recently and was blown away by his strings. I've actually emailed him and asked what patches he is using for those wonderful strings. He farms the production out for the most part.I asked him about East West that Bird mentioned recently. I'm not sure he has used it. I'm still fishing around for the right patches in my library. I would buy something really good tomorrow if I was sure that I could midi it up in my studio, or even audio stream it. I don't use midi, but have about 15 years ago. Don't like it. I don't quantize or much of the techno approaches either. You give me good advice and I will take it to heart. Thanks again, Wig
