Moonlight Skater

Post by Mark Kaufman » Fri Oct 03, 2008 4:26 am

I'm a proud Dad. Wanna fight about it?Here's a new version of "Moonlight Skater" featuring Madeline Kaufman on the lead vocal. She's 14, and she's a joy to work with. Lyrics by Robert George, music by me.Moonlight Skater Moonlight skaterOn your little ice pond hidden in the pinesStars above are silver fruit on heaven's vineCool wind in your scarlet curlsO lonely moonlight skater twirlMoonlight skaterFinding sweet escape in leaps and figure eightsFloating into dreams with wings upon your skatesSpinning upward toward the skyO lonely moonlight skater flyYou slip past your mother out into the bright moonglowShe holds her wine just like she once held you long agoO you've lived a lifetime for one of your tender yearsAre those snowflakes on your cherry cheeks or frozen tearsMoonlight skaterSafe there in the mist of midnight evergreensStars upon the ice are mirrors of your dreamsFaith has found your weary eyesSo lonely moonlight skater riseCopyright 2008 by Robert George and Mark Kaufman

Hey Mark -- she's got a good voice... would love to hear more of the vocal! (also sounds like she could do even better if you upped the key a full step or so, but that's splitting hairs.) It's amazing at what a difference a singer can make on a tune like this.

Thanks so much, everyone! You were right, the vocals were too low in the mix. I posted a remix and I agree, it has a lot more shine to it now. Thanks for the help! -Mark and Maddy
