Is this closer to Hip-Hop

Post by jimlap » Sat Sep 20, 2008 11:16 am

Hello again - I had some trouble figuring out how to establish a link to my music. It seems to have changed. I hope the links I put on the bottom work. Anyway I wrote these two hip hop pieces and I am wondering if anybody familiar (or not familiar) with the genre could give me their opinion of them. Thanks -jimhttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=1381 ... tream=true

I can't listen to these direct taxi song links. If you give a link to your taxi webpage and the names of the 2 songs, I'll try to get back and listen.

Hey Jim...Not bad music beds, but I think that this would fall more into the R&B category than hip hop IMO... though I'm no expert in the genre. But I think the tell tale sign (for me anyway) is that while you may have hip hop elements, the pieces themselves are smoother in tone. Hip hop is a little crisper and cleaner, more rhythmically aggressive (even in softer pieces, it seems to me), use minimalist approaches in instrumentation and through that sparseness create more of an open feeling. All of that makes it more beat oriented, and less about melodies and chord structures. Again, just an opinion from a casual fan.HTH!

I agree that a little reverb would add some depth. More R&B than hip hop. Tom
