Dave and Rachel, with child

Post by davewalton » Tue Sep 09, 2008 10:10 am

There's NEVER enough room for the entire subject! What I MEANT to say was...Dave and Rachel, with child-like enthusiasm have co-written a Children's Song for the recent and upcoming Children's Songs listings (kind of rare listings as it turns out). This is the RLC Music "Rachel" in case anyone is wondering. With everything going "green" we dusted off an old phrase "litterbug" and used bugs as the characters in a place called Bug Town. The song is called "Litter Bug". Rachel did about 99.9% of the concept and music... I threw a few things in here and there (but still get to collect 50% of the millions in royalties and licensing fees). Special thanks to Chits and Suz for help and comments. We couldn't really incorporate all of their suggestions (especially Suz's which were all great but would have required hiring The Wiggles or something to pull off the concept). It's a first for both of us... flying by the seats of our pants with no idea of what a "children's song" is or should be. The great thing about this is, at least with Rachel singing it's like getting a lesson from Mary Poppins or something. Here's the link and the lyrics...www.DaveWaltonMusic.com/MyMusic/LitterBug.mp3‘Litter Bug’© 2008 Rachel L Collard & David G WaltonVerse 1Sidney the spider and Ana the ant Set off for their swimming class Poor Sid tripped and hurt his leg On a piece of broken glass Verse 2Ana skedaddled as fast as she couldFollowing the litter trail Hiding deep inside his shellWas Sam the slimy snail (Ana said…..)Chorus Don’t be a litterbugDon’t be a litterbugPick it up!Don’t be a litterbugDon’t be a litterbugPick it up!Verse 3Bella the bee came buzzing to seeWhat the fuss was all about All the mess on the riverbankMade her scream and made her shoutVerse 4Ana said:- “Hey now! don’t look at meIt was Sam before his swimI don’t drop litter, I’m a tidy antSo don’t bug me, bug him!”(Bella said…………)Chorus Don’t be a litterbugDon’t be a litterbugPick it up!Don’t be a litterbugDon’t be a litterbugPick it up!Verse 5Having cleaned up, they entered a showFor the "Cleanest Place Around”They jumped with joy when they heard the newsThe clear winner was Bug Town!

Hey guys, this is very clever. I think the vocals need to brought up some, not sure I could have made all of them out if they hadn't been in front of me (then again, I'm sure the audience for this will have better hearing than I do). Good Job!

Yahoo, Dave and Rachel -- it's much more WIGGLE-ISCOUS!Nice work! I agree that bringing the vocals up just a tad would be helpful.Overall though, it feels much brighter and character-ish.BRAVO!(. . . now off I go to see if there's any litter to pick up . . . ) ,Suz

Great fun you two. I love childrens songs. Also great concept/lyrics.Maybe some panning to get the vocal through the mix? Voice is perfect for the song.I don't like the "Don't be a litterbug" lyrics and background notes to follow each other directly.Sounds robotic there. (maybe that was the plan for emphasis?)The rest of the production to me is very good.Congrats to you's guys (like the yoopers of Michigan say)Paul

Thank you everyone for your feedback. We're planning on making the choruses both ascend melodically / the same in the near future and will probably do some new takes there. Also will be looking at vocal levels and other feedback written here. Thanks again for listening. And no idea if the following is also American but you are telling big porky pies with your 99.9% comment ! Best wishes,Rachel

Very sweet song, and Rachel's British accent is as charming as the afore-mentioned Mary Poppins. One suggestion I have is to add a vocal harmony layer to the chorus. I think it would create a nice contrast and help it stand out more.Richardwww.richardemmet.com

i'll keep listin and learningRichard - this is the best way to learn! Don't be shy about asking questions, too. would have required hiring The Wiggles The Wiggles freak me out.... Cute song - I just listened on my notebook with the built in speakers, and thought the song sounded fine.I have a strange urge to go take out the trash now...
