Is this track right for the listing?

Post by revnet » Wed Jul 02, 2008 12:47 pm

Greetings all,Just looking for some feedback before I submit. Below is the link to the song I'm considering submitting for this opportunity:NEW LISTING -- EXTREME SPORTS INSTRUMENTALS are needed by a great Production Music Library/Publisher that has signed tons of TAXI members over the years, and has made money for many of them. Think X Games, motocross, skateboarding, BMX, etc. Guitar-based Rock, Power Pop and Punk are typically good bets for this type of opportunity Joe Satriani, Avril Lavigne and Blink 182. Tracks should ideally run between :60 and 3 minutes in length. Broadcast quality is needed here -- excellent home recordings will work.(CORRECTED LINK)http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... tt_myspace

Nope. Not aggressive enough for an extreme sports show, IMO. They want rap-metal or aggro-punk, maybe rock instrumentals if the guitar sounds "mean" enough. Unless there's a section that comes after the first ten seconds, cuz that's how long it took me to say "nope".

Hi Jim,Mojo has a valid point.... about being more agressive... But, when I was listening ( and I like the tune), I could see this being used when they do a special bit on an athlete , and they do it dramatically in slow motion for emphasis. You never know unless you try. Good luck with it!Bob

Sorry if the initial 10 second gut reaction was harsh; point of fact, there's other uses for such a good piece of music, it's just not on target for the listing in my humble and uneducated opinion. Thanks for the save, bmete!

I've heard of roots reggae being used for sports stuff (maybe it wasn't Xtreme, tho), and this track is slinky in a fun sort of way. What about the referenced artists? Is this at all like their stuff? I don't know, myself. In fact, I don't know myself at all. --Mer

Thanks for the feedback guys and no offense taken mojobone. This is a learning experience for me. You both mentioned "aggressive" but the listing doesn't mention that word. This is where it gets confusing to me. It does mention Avril Lavigne, Blink 182 & Power Pop. None of those scream aggressive at me.

Flip on some weekend summer ESPN, or CBS on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Excluding golf, hunting and fishing, turn off the picture, and just listen. ... Now do you get the (X Games, Motocross, BMX) picture? The kinda stuff you hear on "Monster Truck" rallies or drag races would work for the listing, too.

Yes I actually watch the X games stuff (Sorry, probably shouldn't admit that in public). Anyway you seem to be completely ignoring the artists they referenced in the listing. In my original post (to a different part of the forum) the big advice was read the listing carefully. I suppose we can debate this all night and still not get anywhere because it's just our opinions and I do appreciate you taking the time to respond I'm just not able to connect what your saying to the actual listing.

S'alright, we can agree to disagree, but I'm a longtime Satriani fan, and have heard and enjoyed tracks by Avril and Blink 182, so make of it what you will. Still good stuff ya got there.

Hey Jim... I'll chime in on this one too...I think the important commonalities between Satriani, Avril and Blink are that they use a gratuitous amount of guitar.... and it does say "Guitar-based Rock, Power Pop and Punk are typically good bets for this type of opportunity" which to me says get your riffs meshing with your licks... this place is gonna blow!!!So... with that in mind, I think they're looking for show-stoppers. Heart pumping, gear grinding, rock 'em sock 'em type of stuff.Your song is mid-tempo, with the base of it being a distorted elec. piano riff... Nothing against this tune (I like it!), just doesn't fit with the intention of the listing, IMO.It's a good piece... now you need to find the right target for it!
