Hey Wes,I'm not Suz or Bird, but maybe another perspective could help.The first thing that strikes me is that bass. The root/5 part sounds almost country and to my ear not really fitting with the Chinese vibe that you are going for.I think a more ethnic sample and longer notes/different intervals would bring this up a notch.

If you go back and listen to the first version, and then listen to the new version, you can hear a 'world' of difference To me the "sounds" are good - by that I mean they sound live & authentic. I would suggest listening to your mix of the piece at a low volume. When I turned the volume down, there's a spot where the sweeter instruments aren't playing (drums only) & I could barely hear it. Good point re the bass, RLD.You worked hard on this, good luck with the submission!
