2 Forwards!
Listing:Y080211CPCOUNTRY-POP CROSSOVER SONGS are STILL needed by a Los Angeles-based Manager with major and indie label clients for a Pop/Urban artist of his who is about to enter the studio. She is a cross between Beyonce and Natasha Bedingfield, but this manager needs that one hit song that has amazing lyrics and that undeniable hook. The manager has run a few listings for this artist recently, but he's still looking for that HIT! He's looking for a melody and lyric that is so instantly classic that it is beyond genre/format i.e. Dolly Parton/Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You." Examples of Pop/Rock hits becoming Country hits i.e. Gary Allan covering Vertical Horizon's "Best I Ever Had" or Faith Hill covering Janis Joplin's "Piece Of My Heart." All in all, a great song is a great song and this is what he's searching for. Tempo doesn't matter, just amazing songs that resonate so emotionally that they stand the test of time and will feel as current ten years from now as they do today. The manager will come in to screen the submissions himself. Please submit one to three songs per CD/cassette, include lyric sheets. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. For ground submissions, please enclose a S.A.S.E. if you would like a response. Submissions must be received no later than Feb. 11, 2008. Don't call was the first song I EVER wrote! I was 16 and it hasn't changed in all these years! Still pluggin along! Headed to NAshville Wednesday to record 3 new songs. I'm pretty excited. I have a new one that is VERY much like a Colby Collait song.

Re: 2 Forwards!
I'll tell you why you got forwarded. I started listening to "Don't Call" and it sounded so familiar I thought it was a hit song and I had to read the listing text to realize it was not a cover... it was your original song. You got it nailed, kiddo. Be proud. Kudos to you!!!

Re: 2 Forwards!
Congratulations Jamie - Go Girl !Just an observation/question about listings......(with reference to this particular one). I have often seen many listings say "If you were forwarded for *********....then please don't submit to this etc..." I saw this listing and was convinced that it was the same as the listing we both were forwarded for a few weeks ago (Y080116CP - with your "Every Now & Then") - the wording is 'nearly' identical. Do listings always say "if forwarded for....etc...." if they are in fact "different" ? I know you should submit to as many as possible but sometimes I'm not 100% sure whether I should submit to certain listings since they seem to be the same listing but just a different deadline (but they don't state "if forwarded for etc....". I can understand that deadlines move/the same listings come up again and again etc.... but I felt it may be a bit silly submitting the same material to the same Manager for the same thing! Any feedback would be great on this - Thanks!I'm going to listen to 'Don't Call' now - haven't heard that one Rachel

Hey Rachel,Actually it IS the same company...but I think each time they are looking for a different song choice...I"m not sure LOL..I always look to see if they are saying "if forwarded for...etc." but this one didn't. This SAME manager has chosen 4 of my songs and me as an artist...I hope that's a good thing!! I haven't heard anything yet though...you?hugs!Jamie

Re: 2 Forwards!
I liked your 'LOL' - I'm having a big one too because I'm probably not even submitting to listings I should be . All the song examples and ala's were identical etc.... No news on the other listing..... I just had to check if I actually submitted to the one above - I didn't as I thought - no idea what planet I'm on today!Very very nice song and as usual a fantastic vocal. Good luck! All the best,Rachel

and you were thinking you should be doing instrumentals!man, if I could sound like a singer like yourself, instead of a guitarist who "sings", I would be doing less instrumentals! hahacongrats.

Re: 2 Forwards!
Congratulations! That's a much different result with a "first song" than a guy that came on the forum last year with his first-ever country song he wrote 16 years ago. He submitted it for a "current/contemporary" country listing and, by the very definition of "current/contemporary", his 16 year old song didn't get forwarded. Of course there was the obligatory freak out posting railing against the screeners, Taxi, the country music establishment, and the Easter Bunny. OK... I made up the part about the Easter Bunny. He wasn't mad at the Easter Bunny (at least it wasn't important enough for him to mention). It seems you're getting a lot of good forwards, high-bar stuff. I don't know anything about country but I'll take Hummingbird's word that these feel like familiar hits.

Dang girl...You are keeping them screener's busy!Good work and good luck. Quote:I started listening to "Don't Call" and it sounded so familiar I thought it was a hit song and I had to read the listing text to realize it was not a coverI had that same feeling...I think its because of the Gloria Estefan song "Here We Are" which starts with the same descending line of lyrics as jameii's.
