Shadow Town
My song, Shadow Town didn't get forwarded because it sounded "too much like Bruce Springsteen." I would appreciate a review on it because I want to know if it deserved to be forwarded unrelated to who it sounds like.Lyrics:Lately Billy’s seen some real hard timesGot a wife and kids and he works in the minesWants something better but he just gets byThere’s a monkey climbin’ up his backA man has got to have his crutch, brother, that’s a factAnd he looks up to the sky……Lord, help me get through one more daySave me from the wolves I keep at bayIf you let me, I might slip away into Shadow TownPretty Mary comes from a broken homeInto the city streets she’s gone to roamLookin’ for something she can call her ownBut, there’s a monkey climbin’ up her backA girl has got to have her crutch, sister, that’s a factAnd she hangs her head and cries….Lord, help me get through one more daySave me from the wolves I keep at bayIf you let me, I might slip away into Shadow TownShadow Town, Shadow TownWhere the soul is lost and it can’t be foundWhere every dream comes tumblin’ downThat’s Shadow TownLord, help me get through one more daySave me from the wolves I keep at bayIf you let me, I might slip away into Shadow TownOhh…into Shadow Town…. Ohh….into Shadow TownShadow Town Don’t want to live and die in Shadow TownDon’t want to live and die in Shadow Town……Shadow Townhttp://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.php?user ... borsShadow Town isn't on the MySpace, but you can listen to the 30 second sample.

Re: Shadow Town
okay, so i tried to download the song, but i couldn't...not your fault, just my own technical difficulties. but based on the lyrics, here's what i think:1) do you have to put the part about the "crutch" in there? obviously, that's what you believe, but really, is it really necessary in the song? can't they have a monkey on their backs and feel depressed and just look up to the sky and pray? because if you mention God being a crutch, then, IMHO, it seems like you'd need to spend more time on that idea in the song. but that's not the song...that's not what it's about! it's kind of a loaded line, IMO, that doesn't really need to be in there. but that's just my two cents. 2) i like the concept of "shadow town", but i'm wondering if it'd be more effective if you'd tell us about this place earlier in the song. granted, i'm going purely on reading the lyrics here, but seems like the "Shadow Town, Shadow Town" refrain should be the chorus. Is it? Is the "save me from the wolves" section a prechorus? i might be blowin' smoke b/c you might have recorded it that way.just some thoughts...hope they help!

Re: Shadow Town
I hear the Springsteen comparison lyrically & from the sound of the vocals but musically it sounds much closer to the "Little Steven" solo stuff to me. It's tough when you naturally sound like someone else that's well known, especially an icon like THE BOSS. If you get close to their themes or song styles you run the risk of peolple saying you're a copycat or just mimicking someone. It invokes a negative response. I know, I've had more than my share of that dished out to me & it's no damn fun.

What did the listing ask for?All the bestLiamCOUNTRY/ROCK SONGS a la EMERSON DRIVE are needed by a major Nashville label. They are looking for songs that are exciting and raw, with a rock edge wrapped around the pure country core. Think less Rascal Flatts and more Steve Earle/the Mavericks in terms of style and approach. Lyrically, they're open but are of course expecting outstanding lyric stories supported by undeniable melodies and hooks. Uptempos are preferred, but all tempos will be considered. They need hits! Please submit one to three songs online or per CD/cassette, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Mar. 25, 2008. TAXI # S080325COI didn't have any hopes for this listing at all. I hardly consider this country, but I sent it because it mentioned Steve Earle. I just didn't expect that to be the reason it didn't get sent.
