Peer Review Request
We're new "'round these parts" and we kinda just wanted to see if being "a little different", is okay Anyway, here are a couple links to songs that we'd like to know what "genre" you feel they belong in:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... eam=trueIf they remind you of some other song or artist, please let us know which one.TIA

Re: Peer Review Request
Hey there TIA,I'm too new here to venture much of an opinion on what genres these would fall into, but just wanted to say that I really enjoyed listening to both. I do hear some R&B in the first, and reasons2bded might fit well in Electronica.... in any case, they're both great. Best of luck with everything here and hope to see you around.Tim

Re: Peer Review Request
hi there, welcome to the forum....One Man Minus Linus...I think you are R&B when the vocal comes in, but the intro sets up an electronica vibe....maybe because the drum sound at the top.....nice vocals and backgrounds...it's good to post lyrics....reason2bded...yeah!!!! now that's funky!!! this song will do well IMO...I'd go for artist listings with this one....there was an R & B listing last month that would've been perfect for this!!!! this song is very hip....will get gobbled up by the screeners IMO... I don't think being a "little different" will be a problem....let us know!!!good luck,Vicky

Re: Peer Review Request
Yeah, we submitted onemanminuslove for that listing: Commercial-sounding URBAN-POP/R&B SONGS in the range of Beyonce, Usher, Fergie, Nelly Furtado, Robin Thicke, Brandy, Omarion, etc. are once again sought by the Sr. VP of Creative at a large Independent Publisher. He's seeking great hit songs to pitch to today's biggest R&B/Urban-Pop artists. If forwarded for S070514RB, please don't submit the same material. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD/cassette, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Feb. 5, 2008. TAXI # S080205RBIt got "rejected" (or I guess the official term is "returned") by the TAXI person. They said they liked it, but it wasn't in the "trend" being used in today's music. We sort of took that to mean that it didn't sound like something Timberland (or Pharrell Williams) would do. That's the reason we asked if being "a little different" is okay. To us it was more of a Hall & Oates (i.e. Darryl Hall) type tune, with sort of a Babyface type musical arrangement (i.e. part R&B, part country). Timberland doesn't sound like Babyface or Hall & Oates, so we guess that's what the TAXI person means Reasons2Bded is more in the Peter Gabriel vein (i.e. socially-conscious message; the mindset behind suicide-bombing, presented on top of a danceable, but kind of musical groove), so we don't really think it will be a lot of people's "cup of tea" Yeah, most bass and guitar players like this tune, because it's got kind of a Jaco-ish and Scritti Polliti/Nick Kershaw/Level 42 feel to it. It's interesting that you felt like parts of both tunes are electronica. I guess this is because of the synth patches we used, or the rhythm for the part(s) you heard.Anyway, thanks for listening, and providing feedback.

Re: Peer Review Request
This is not a slam on Taxi, but it's been my experience that if you don't sound EXACTLY like the ala's in the listings, it's a very slim chance of being forwarded. This is just my opinion, but I've got to say that when it comes to Taxi, "being a little different" might not be a good thing. Not because of Taxi, but because of the way the commercial music industry is, which dictates the rules we all play by. Just my opinion, bring on the hate.Nice songs by the way. R&B with a twist. I might even say "edgy".

And even when they are not looking for replacement tracks, TV shows, movies, etc. want a sound that is familiar to their audience, often young. So this is to be expected. Now, without listening to some of your tracks (I think I listened to some of your tracks a while back), it's hard for me to give an opinion as to whether there is more to the reasons you get returned. Sometimes people submit tracks that don't sound current even if good songs. The issue there can be just that- not current sounding and not a matter of sounding very close to an "a la" artists. It is fact that people producing music that doesn't "fit the mold", is more experimental/alternative, etc. will not do as well with TAXI. I think even TAXI would acknowledge that. Casey

In times past it seems like some of the forum members got a little heated if anything slightly negative was said about Taxi.

Hmmm? Maybe we should hire vicky 'da bass player to be our "suit" Alright, "miss vic", we got somethin' for ya! See if you can guess which of these got forwarded and which got returned. We're pretty sure you've seen all the same listings we have, and are a good judge of what is likely to be forwarded or not http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... eam=trueSo vicky, what's your hourly rate? HEE!HEE! Peace,Woohttp://www.bourgeoisbrats.com

Quote:That's the reason we asked if being "a little different" is okayBeing a little different is okay if you are pitching yourself (or your group) as an artist. If you are pitching songs, then your songs need to sound like the a la's in the listing. Not just a little, a lot. It's difficult to review any song without the context of a listing. And the reason for that is you could submit a fantastic song that sounds like Peter Gabriel, but if they are looking for Peter Frampton, you'll get a return, simple as that.I listened to "Everything I Dream of". Funky R&B, well put together. The chorus didn't reach out and grab me until later in the song. But I enjoyed it.Hummin'bird Just for future reference, the sort-of unwritten rule is that you will post one song at a time for review (and review other's music in exchange for their time & feedback). But it's okay to do one kinda general "do you think our stuff is ready for Taxi" thread. Just so you know

Re: Peer Review Request
bourgeoisbrats,Can't even say at this point. It is rather unique sounding. I also enjoyed the listen. Reasons 2 B Ded is funky cool!! I likes! Love the jazzy riff! S'gotta lot of different elements fused in there, which is why it sounds so unique. Excellent groove (I'm listening to it now). IMO, this piece is beyond the norm. It's so cool, it's hard to classify. I love this kinda' stuff. The other R&B sounding piece which sounds good as well, caught my attention. Nice vocals, like the way it was layed out. I wish I could offer some advise. Unfortunately, I have none. All I can say is, keep trying to pitch them. Somebody's bound to recognize sooner or later. Good luck!ibanez468
