Advice on which genre-newbie 1st song critique p2p
http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... eam=1thank you to the hummingbird for her post in 'you best read this to post on peer to peer, dear'- i couldn't figure how to add the link thinger.sorry, i live in the rain forest.jungle.low tech.unretiring.excuse my ignorance as to where the genre-lines are, i know there are many flavors of country (and does alt mean there are no dogs or beer in it?) and i am also interested in the 'eaglesy/tom petty-ish' chris isaak type artist, which i do not know what to call.americana?folk?any and all criticism is welcome, i have a long way to go and i know it-be cruel, it would be kind at this point.i want to get my demos up to par with a lot of what i hear on TAXI-and skill required to be on target for the 'call' is difficult when you are as old as i am.hawaiian music is lovely, but we don't have any contact with the real world, and i've been here twenty odd years...the song is called 'i found out'.thank you for your time.it's very fun on here, for me.amy

Genre I really don't know, pop rockish/americana.If you want some general pointers from people that maybe don't know any better than you tbh I'll give you 2 things from listening to your song.1st There are quite a few pitch problems, you need to fix that.2nd For me the outro took forever and that part of the song was in my opinion the least interesting whenever that appeared in the song, in my taste you would need to fix that.Happy huntinSteini

It does have a nice Tom Petty vibe to it....remeniscent of "Last Dance with Mary Jane."Just some ideas.....-Maybe add some vocal harmonies to define specific sections-Key change at some point (bridge?)-It could use a stronger chorus....a section that really stands out from the verse....something that you'll be humming after you hear it.Good start though.....keep up the great work!

Hey Amy. Hey, you figured out how to post your song and a link! Cool. You should also post the lyrics, as they are big part of song review at Taxi, and so you might like some feedback from the board members. What would you pitching a song like this for? Song pitch to an artist, film/tv? Might be singer/songwriter.The mix needs work on this. I think the shakers could go back in the mix (they get better later on), they are covering the vocals, which need to come forward a little. Guitars sound a little buzzy. I could be wrong but sounds like you need to pan out a little more and EQ the epiano, which pulls the ear a little. Nice vocals. I agree some harmonies on the chorus would help it stand out more. I agree that the chorus doesn't really reach out and grab you."I found out" is one of those hooks that I am not certain about... because it's an incomplete phrase. Not that it can't work, but everything in the song needs to point to "I found out". What did he find out?On the other hand, the vocals aren't bad, there's a sense of happiness about the song, and it's a good beginning to your journey here. Did you do this demo yourself?cheersHummin'bird

hi Amy...It helps to post lyrics. like Vikki said,...the biggest fix to me is the levels, the guitar is too far away...and not bright enough..Also, as the song moves forward you could build more in the all parts...vocal backgrounds could add alot...towards the end the mix starts to sound a little better....this could be easy rock..I'm not the best at naming these things, but that's my 2 cents....let us know how it turns out,Vicky

Quote:is there really going to be a rally in nashville someday?Isn't the Rally in LA closer to you? All kinds of music are discussed there, including country.
