Geo, new song, comments/genre suggestions please.
Hi guys another co-write with the Wifey, rough mix but I'm going to polish it up for a couple of possible listings... MODERN POP/HOT AC SONGS in the general range of Rob Thomas, Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis, Natasha Bedingfield, etc. are sought by the Sr. VP of Creative at a large Independent Publisher. He's seeking great hit songs to pitch to today's biggest Pop/Hot AC stars like those mentioned above. Amazing lyrics, hooks, and choruses are all essential. Please submit one to three songs per CD/online, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Feb. 15, 2008.Current-sounding FEMALE ROCK/POP SONGS in the general range of Fergie, Amy Winehouse, Jessica Simpson, etc. are sought by a Grammy-nominated Producer working with a young, female artist in need of hit songs. These songs will be selected for Film/TV Masters and for the purpose of shopping this new, talented artist for a major label deal. All-Star Los Angeles musicians are slated to record this artist's debut project. Some of the producer's past credits include Billy Bragg, Whitney Houston, Taj Mahal, and Cissy Houston. The producer himself will screen your submissions. Please submit two to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY -- NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. Submissions must be received no later than Feb. 19, 2008.Think it will work for both/either of these listings? With a female vocal for the second?Of course any other comments welcome... GeoI was thinking about MODES when I wrote this song.... but it's not a MODE. http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... trueLyrics and Music by Kim and George Daniels© 2008Used to be I’d look the other way, Or ignore all the hurtful little things you say,Use to be I never wanted to know. But lately everything’s rearranged, My point of view is different, priorities changed,So this is how it’s going to go.If you think that someone else will love you more,And you’re looking for me, I’ll be standing at the door.Don’t you worry, you’ve got nothing to fear,Cause Baby I’ll drive you there.Don’t think that I’ll go crazy, or just stand and stare.Or cry into my pillow or pull out all my hair.Don’t you worry, you’ve got nothing to fear,Cause Baby I’ll drive you there, I’ll drive you there. That’s right, Baby I’ll drive you there, I’ll drive you there. That’s right, Baby I’ll drive you there.I’m tired and I’m scared but I’m still full of fight,And I will never feel ashamed when you should be contrite. So if you’ve found someone else who’ll care,Then Baby I’ll drive you there. But I won’t give in, I won’t tell you it’s OK,I won’t let you turn me into some old cliche. You think she’s better? No argument here,Cause Baby I’ll drive you there, I’ll drive you there. That’s right, Baby I’ll drive you there, I’ll drive you there. That’s right, Baby I’ll drive you there. So if you’ve found someone else who’ll care,Well don’t you worry, you’ve got nothing to fear,Do you think she’s better? No argument here,Cause Baby I’ll drive you there, I’ll drive you there. That’s right, Baby I’ll drive you there, I’ll drive you there.Used to be I’d look the other way, Or ignore all the hurtful little things you say,Use to be I never wanted to know.

Hey Geo,Pretty good stuff. Like the flanging guitars. Those are cool. Gotta' watch the vocs though. From the :42 to the :44 mark - "This is how it has to go", don't know if one of the singers came in a little early or if that was intentional, but it was a little questionable right around there. Around the 2:00 mark - "So if you’ve found someone else who’ll care", gets a little pitchy in there. Just curious, but if one singer is gonna' hold a note for a certain length of time, shouldn't the other harmonies hold on for the same length? The one singer is left holdin' those long notes all by himself sometimes, and then sometimes not. Perhaps that was the intention. Don't know. But overall, sounds cool. Keep at it & good luck to ya'.ibanez468

Hey Geo, I'm listening now. Nice Track. Some of the harmony's could stand a little refinement. I'd change up the drums a little to. By the second verse I'd go into to more of a straight beat. Just remember, build and release. Genre wise, it doesn't sound like a fit to either of those listings, to me anyway, but what do I know...But anyhow, polish this up a bit and I think you'll have a pretty good song. I think this could fit in with like an 80's pop singer-songwriter sort of vibe. Like the replacements, (not sure about that, whoever pat denazio was in) or the Knack. Good luck

Thanks for the listen guys, yeah the back ups come in early there in the first chorus, I listened to it so many times I think I like them there, though we have to clean those tails up, I do think they are suppose to end at once, Mike gets lazy there at times, plus this is his first run through wit it, most likely polish the apple on Monday.I dunno genre wise, the chorus definately have more of an Indie vibe but I was hearing Cali Beach Rock in the verses, rehersing a female lead, might have her try it, see how it comes out... Thanks again, Geo

.....I'm just worried that none of us are going to be 'driving' much soon....so it's actually going to be a sad song in a few years.... very good song Geo and Kim...I don't think these are the right listings...definately not the style of Fergie, Amy Winehouse, Jessica Simpson....they probably don't drive themselves anywhere....I think it's a very cool rock song...Cali Beach Rock, you say? more guitar janglin' and treble could put it there fer sure...I'm with Ibanez on holding the background out vocal with the lead...With a female vocal....you could change it to "you'll drive me there" remember I have a strange sense of humor let us know how it turns out,Vicky

Hi Geo.I like the intro, but between the intro and the length of the verses I think you take a long time to get to the chorus. The chorus is catchy, however, I'd like to hear more contrast between the verse and chorus, maybe a break to grab attention. You've got all the elements though. Structure is sound and your lyrics are interesting.Jim

"You'll drive me there Sweetheart!!!!" Thanks for the comments.... yeah I'm coming around to the fact that the harmonies have to be in sync more, though I like the guy, in the back holding that note, too me cool, but I realise this is one of those "things I have to accept" ... oh well... told my wife it's a funny song to write the week of Valentines Day, but "I'll drive you there" has been a good natured cut between us for a couple of years now...James I understand the "needs more contrast" thing... I call these songs 4 chords and a cloud of dust.... when I first started writing years ago U2 were my favs and they are the masters of that type of arrangment, I'll mess around to see how a break might work.... I had an Em7 change in previously, I'll fiddle.....I always have trouble listings/genres cause I write what's in my head then look for a listing and I know I should be approaching it different, but I'm not, so there... so I'll spend $5 ... I'll stay away from the POP/AC one though... go more POP/ROCK.. I'll check the new listings now... Thanks again, Geo
