Rock fans... mind giving me a listen?
I'm considering a Taxi membership for this year, and thought I'd start out on the forums before taking the plunge. I'd like to invite you rock/metal/industrageeks to give my stuff a listen, particularly three tracks: "Why Bother," "Nerve," and "Suck Me Stupid." I'm currently working on a new batch of crap. and would like some fellow music-makers to give my older crap a sniff. For those wondering, "Mother's Day" is a song I wrote for my wife on her very first Mother's Day, four years ago, about our son Iain. It was also the first full piece I created in GarageBand, still my weapon of choice. "Eight Writers" is a Beatles parody I did for KeithandTheGirl.com, a podcast you should definitely check out.All five tracks are available at my MicePace page, myspace.com/panicboydotcom.Thank you for your time. -Jason.

If nothing else for the critiques.Point 2 - I listened to Suck Me Stupid first. Interesting stuff. Even though the quality of MicePace (stealing that btw) sucks. Right down my dark little alley. Some very good lyrics -- love the throttle/cliff line. Good vocals, though not strong enough in the chorus. Production wise -- IMHO needs some more edge ala NIN to really slam. I like it a lot though... all except for the chorus. Definitely some ideas worth tweaking out IMHO.For Garage Band -- not too bad, but I think you need to sharpen your skills a bit to match your talent-- both in production and songwriting/arranging/vocal performance. Nerve and Why Bother--- not as strong IMHO, but still some good ideas. Also, for Taxi, the profanity is going to limit your opportunities as many are for broadcast. Also, it's much easier to get feedback around here a song or a question at a time. In my opinion, you're not there yet, but some good feedback and input can get you there -- if you listen (and not necessarily to me ). Don't take one opinion to heart, but look for trends and consensus.Welcome aboard!Aub

You definitely have talent. I listened to Suck Me Stupid. You have really nice ideas.....I think that for this style you need to focus on production and taking things more over the top as far as giving your sound that industrial sound. As backwards as this sounds.............the sound is a little too natural in my opinion and vocally it needs to be darkened (the sound) and made more artificial............maybe some distortion in the vocals or something to that effect. Don't make it unlistenable but I would artificial it up a little.Just my opinion.................but you do have talent. Just need to put it all together and keep at it.

Cool. So, dirty it up, but keep it clean.I'd like to know how I can improve the vocals. Plus some production tips would be great. I only really know how to bang in the performances, set some patches and twiddle with levels until things make sense. Hell, I may even be willing to stick the project files somewhere. Thanks for your input!

Production wise I think I would turn them down a little, I listen to NIN all the time and Trent Reznors vocals are considerably lower in a mix than a pop or country record. Then again I'm listening on crappy computer speakers so take my advice with a grain of salt. Also the electric guitar didn't seem on par with your other instrumentation/vocals. It seemed small by comparison, whereas as everything else sounded very full and present. Overall though I think you do very good work. good luck

Oh, wow. BRAIN FART. I was reading your response, Dax, and the whole time I'm thinking... Where have I seen that avatar before? I know that picture! What the hell?BTW, I did add you. Thanks for hitting my MicePace.I think I need a lie down. And I like your "Closer" cover. Yeah, I agree the geetar is a bit weak. It's just a patch, a placeholder until I get around to laying down a real track. Thanks for the words!

also, keep in mind that industrial listings are only a part of TAXI. You ultimately would use TAXI to broaden your recording strokes....I love TAXI for this reason alone. My recording has (hopefully) grown because of the different genresSuck me stupid sounds real good...me personally, I'd dirty up those lyrics...make them not so clean!Good luck with your decision!

I'm fairly versatile. I think "Mother's Day" will attest to that. I'm pretty proud of that one. I think it sounds kinda Eels-ish.Wow, I'm so impressed with the turnout and all the really constructive criticism. And it's not all the same. We have a very wide range of artists with differing opinions and styles. It's a really good thing you have here. I think I may ask for the membership fee as a birthday present.

I didn't have time to listen to all of them through, but sampled a taste. I enjoyed what you're doing. Not my first choice in genre, but maybe I should listen more.Bubba
