Should I submit this?
Here's the listing:The President/CEO of an Independent Film Production Co. that primarily produces Christian faith-based projects needs young and current-sounding ALTERNATIVE/MODERN ROCK SONGS (with lyrics) in the general range of Switchfoot, P.O.D., Jars of Clay, Relient K, MxPx, U2, Jeremy Camp, etc. for their current film project. Songs with Christian-based/spiritual lyrics are preferred, but he’s also open to great Christian Crossover or secular songs with general, uplifting, and positive themes. Great performances are key - both vocally and musically. This listing ran in October of 2007, so if you already submitted to D071009AR please don’t submit again. The President still hasn’t found exactly what he’s looking for so we’re putting this out one more time. They plan to distribute this project via DVD and cable TV (Family Network, Christian TV, etc.). License fees are negotiable, of course, and at this point they’re offering about $100-$300 per song, depending on usage. Broadcast quality needed [great sounding home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. For ground submissions, please enclose a S.A.S.E. if you would like a response. As always, we will notify everyone via e-mail, whether your submissions have been Forwarded or Returned. Submissions must be received no later than 4:00 PM, Pacific Standard Time (California time), Friday, January 25, 2008.Here's the tune:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... am=1PS-I'm aware of some distortion in the vocal track, as well as a master volume issue going into the first chorus. Those things will get fixed. Thanks for your feedback!Don

Re: Should I submit this?
Hey Don,I listened to your track. I'm a big P.O.D and Jars of Clay fan and like the music from the bands mentioned in the listing but take my observations with many pinches of salt.Firstly very nice lyrics. Some nice lines...such as "the time is late and so are we" and the lyrics of the chorus too are good. Has all the basis of a good song. But to me it didn't build, it seems that this song could be almost anthemic, starting fairly quite and restrained but building and building until the last chorus really pours out at you. I felt the song stayed at one level and didn't really build. I would have the guitar come in straight away on the first verse/chorus cycle. Then on the second verse/chorus have the guitar playing chords and/or broken chords with even some strings or some such keyboard pad in the back ground that then leads into the guitar solo/bridge that should really pull out the stops and finally into a grand finale of the last chorus. P.O.D and U2 are masters of this kind of song structure. The vocals also should follow this build by build sequence too starting off restrained but kicking into high gear at the second chorus. In general I felt the vocals were a little uncertain, more noticably around the "stand up, stand up, stand tall" parts. As I said before I think this is the basis of a good song but needs some thought as to how to make it shine. Anyways I hope this is somewhat helpful and please realize this is just my humble opinion so take it for what it's worth.Let's see what others think.all the bestDerek

Re: Should I submit this?
Derek-Thanks for the nice compliments and great suggestions! The vocals definitely need to be re-cut. Aside from the distortion (had a bad input jack) I think I did about 4,000 takes that day, when I probably should have just walked away from it for a day and tried again fresh. Thanks again for the review! Anyone else care to weigh in on this? Time is running short for submission (in fact, deciding to submit to this listing also means deciding to pay for Dispatch by Fri. So lots and lots of positive comments will be helpful in convincing my wife to give me the credit card )
