Thanks for the feedback guys. I have a small concern that my right hand drags a little bit during a couple of spots, but I can't really tell anymore since I've listened to it so many times. Michael, I did try a couple "tack" type piano patches, but kept coming back to this one with a little chorus and an eq tweek. The "tack" patches were a little too saloon-like for what I'm looking for. Anyway, thanks for listening - I appreciate itLarry

Larry,Did you do any research on ragtime, Joplin in particular. Do a search on Amazon, there are several Joplin compilations out there.I started a track at 142 BPM and asked my wife what she thought so far. She played alot of the Joplin stuff earlier in life and reminded me ALOT of ragtime has a slow lilting quality to it.I think we tend to think of this music in conjunction with the roaring 20's and ragtime can become "flapper" music.Just some food for thought. I'll be posting my entry in the next day or so.ChuckBTW I learned the research lesson by submitting a "calliope track" that I thought was dead on and it was returned. Another listing came up right after that for another "calliope track" I did my research on Amazon, did a new track and got a forward. (This is another example of Matto's influence. He is a stickler on doing your homework)

Hey Larry...I really like that piece. Well played. I will be posting mine in a few days.I would like to hear it without the drum track...the drum track almost sounds like a Nashville train beat to me, and IMO, doesn't really add enough... i.e. there's not enough interplay between the drums and piano. It would be great to have the drums echo some of the piano syncopation once in a while, or have a cool syncopated fill. I'm a pianist, but never really studied ragtime, so please take my comments with a shaker of salt Good luck!Charlie

I can't listen to streams from TAXI here at day gig central so I can't comment on Larry's track right now. I can say, though, that I had a chance many years ago to meet and hear Max Morath, an authority on ragtime piano. He made it a point to let everyone know that most of Joplin's pieces have the notation "not too fast" right at the beginning. I guess that the decision on tempo is: do we rely on the screeners to be as hip to Joplin as we are or do we write to the modern cliched perception of ragtime (fast tempos)?I don't have time to write anything right now so good luck to everyone on this listing!!Mazz

Mazz certainly posses the $64,000 question: If only the listing said X bpm...Larry's may be faster than the "Joplin" style, but I still think it will get forwarded, it has a happy energy/Not to tread on Larry's thread.. I'm going to post my little rag on the thread I started last week.I am by no means a ragtime player, my respect to those that are, I never realized even with all thats going on note wise, how exposed one wrong or misplaced note sticks out. I really like this Larry, great playing at performance, certainly couldn't hear any issues with that that would've bothered me. I would agree it's not "purist ragtime" a la the Joplin classics...it's on the fast side and a bit too swingy, and the left hand is a bit...non traditional in it's phrasing. So it'll be a question on how much they're looking for "pure" ragtime I guess.Definitely worth a shot...matto

Thanks all. I modeled this tune after Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag" which was actually a bit faster than my piece -- but, like Matto said, you never know what there looking for exactly. A quote by Max Morath that Mazz referenced above about tempo in ragtime on that question, "Is it better to play ragtime fast or slow?", the answer is an unqualified "YES!" (from http://www.perfessorbill.com/ragtime6.shtml)I too thought that it had to much swing in it for a Joplinesqe rag.It's a fun track, it will be interesting to see how it fits the listing.
