Quote:Quote:Vikki,Sounding great now (with D.W.'s assistance). It's probably a combination of the not so stellar quality of the verb that comes with Tracktion, and you applying to much of it with the wrong settings that did you in.It's tough to say anything more than that since the reverb you're using is using arbitrary parameter units (e.g. "roomsize=2")Beautiful singing...that little snippet with Dave's strings put me in the Xmas spirit...and it takes a lot to do that .Wow, thanks Matt, a LOT. Dave's snippet also showed it's not always the mic that's the issue.I think when I get the upgrade to full version Tracktion3 I will have better reverb than the 'licenced demo version'. Soon, I hope! Here's the thing, I didn't really do anything special. I imported the track into an empty project, added a short reverb, made an adjustment, added a long reverb, made an adjustment, and it was done. If I was charging $300/hr for my work, your bill would have been $1.14 (Canadian!).

Quote:I'm not sure what's going on with the reverb but I'm with Squid. I took the liberty of downloading your raw vocal and applying a room reverb at 10% chained to a hall reverb at around 7%. Chaining short with long is a little tip from our own Mr Stick and Mr Andre. I'm just listening through headphones but I think it sounds a lot more natural.www.DaveWaltonMusic.com/PrivateArea/Vik ... b.mp3Maybe it's just the quality reverb that comes with whatever it is you're using and no setting will sound natural. Maybe The Stickmeister or Andre The Audio Giant can listen and give some explanation. Anyone want to take a trip to Canada? Okay, I tried to emulate what you did, Dave... I took Michael/songwriter's suggestion & downloaded some other Verbs. Is this somewhat of an improvement? I did an bus #1 & sent some signal to a room-like verb setting, and I did a bus# 2 sending a little signal to a hall-like verb setting. I also added a DSR. I have no EQ on this at the mo, trying to get the verb right. http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ummingbird

This is one of those things where you listen to the "target" track, and adjust your track until it sounds the same or at least very close or similar.

Re: Away in a Manger
It's sounding really good Vikki. It seemed to me that the 2nd voice is really far back, maybe you want it that way, but it was a bit bothersome to me. When the 3rd voice came in at the end it fit better.Maybe you have just been focusing on the lead, or it could be a preference issue.Thank you for your willing to go through this process, it has helped me in my own understanding - I can't wait to try some of the things out. And thanks Dave for all the lessons.Trent

Re: Away in a Manger
Thanks Trent - that's a good observation - I was so focused on getting the lead to sound something like Dave's example I missed that.

Re: Away in a Manger
Dave has been INCREDIBLY HELPFUL with this, the kindness of people on this board astonishes me. Thanks also go to Squid (Nita), and Michael/songwriter for trying to get me on the right track.

Quote:I am trying to get better with using Reverb (sparingly) and EQ (watch those top frequencies)... I'm sure I'm not "there" yet (today I read "Studio Buddy" & part of the Tracktion 2 manual) but here's another a capella offering from me Away in a Manger - http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ummin'bird Edit - yes I did have 'away in a manager' how I managed to do that I have no idea.... Even before i listen to it, I just have to say I LOVE "Away in a Manager". That's too funny.

Re: Away in a Manger
Not knowing reverb from EQ anything, I should only say how lovely your voice sounds. As for the arrangement, I figure I should say nothing, as that's not what you're asking about here.I think it's beautiful. End of statement.
