Re: Away in a Manger
Next year Vikki, we'll get an early start and work together to get more than 18 seconds of this...www.DaveWaltonMusic.com/PrivateArea/Vik ... ippet.mp3I couldn't resist adding a little start to the music and I'd give anything to have the time to do this now. Maybe if we start Christmas music in August 2008...

Re: Away in a Manger
Well, I don't know who your critics are but for contemporary music, microslides up to pitch are acceptable, even expected. There are so many classical singers nowadays who teach what they think is commercial music, it's a wonder singers don't have more screwed up thought processes than they do. The classics are great for training a voice to endure, to enrich its power base, to learn dynamics. But then you have to adapt all that to commercial singing (ala microsliding), which a lot of vocal teachers will promptly slap your hand for. It can be confusing.

Vikki,Sounding great now (with D.W.'s assistance). It's probably a combination of the not so stellar quality of the verb that comes with Tracktion, and you applying to much of it with the wrong settings that did you in.It's tough to say anything more than that since the reverb you're using is using arbitrary parameter units (e.g. "roomsize=2")Beautiful singing...that little snippet with Dave's strings put me in the Xmas spirit...and it takes a lot to do that .

Dave's snippet also showed it's not always the mic that's the issue.I think when I get the upgrade to full version Tracktion3 I will have better reverb than the 'licenced demo version'. Soon, I hope!

Soon, I hope! Here's the thing, I didn't really do anything special. I imported the track into an empty project, added a short reverb, made an adjustment, added a long reverb, made an adjustment, and it was done. If I was charging $300/hr for my work, your bill would have been $1.14 (Canadian!).
