I'm thinking about submitting for this listing;NEW LISTING -- MALE CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY SONGS are sought by the Director of A&Rat a Major Nashville Label for an artist working on his 2nd major release. This rootsy artist has a warm, baritone voice and a rocker's edge -- so country/rocksongs are welcome. Great stories and hooks are a must. Please submit one to threesongs online or per CD/cassette, include lyrics. All submissions will be screenedand critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Jan. 9, 2008.TAXI # S080109COI don't know squat about writing country & from reading in the forums the stuff you country writers go through with all of the Nashville rules & regulations I think I'd rather go waterboarding! But the listing does mention country rock so I get the impression that something different might be ok. Here's the tune I'm thinking of submitting . . . whatdya think?http://www.billgaunce.com/song/6

Re: Sort Of Country
I agree this doesn't feel like a country song to me. It's much more folk-rock, with a lot of character, like Michael says. I'd try submitting for any listings looking for male singer/songwriter songs, for example. However, they play a lot of folk/Celtic on CMT, so I'd give it a shot. Since you get a critique with this listing, I would submit and get the screener's comments. Enjoyed the listen!cheersHummin'bird

Re: Sort Of Country
Bill, I was able to listen to your link....you write FANTASTIC music, but country it ain't. The lyrics could be country if you listened to some Trace Atkins or Alan Jackson and had that 'Nashville" sound added to it, but would you really want that anyway? This song is good enough on its own to submit to listings that would be more receptive to it. I agree with Songwriter about listening to more country oriented markets if that's the way you want to go, but this song has a real nice Dylanesque vibe to it, so maybe you should go that way.

Re: Sort Of Country
Thanks all. I think I was just hoping that maybe I had written something that by "accident" would fit for a country listing. I get anxious sometimes because I feel like most of what I write falls through the "genre cracks". I'm glad you guys like the song though . . . whatever it is!
