I don't know about specific generes, but if you recorded this with accoustic guitars, and a bass. It would be less busy and more pronounced. A little more harmony through out, with the vocals and make them just a tad playful or less seriuos. I think you'll have more success in general.nice song, though.Dave

out or sparse. Your playing is very good, but the words and vocals should be focus point. The instrumentation should be Rhythmic and and a sparse and adequate bass line will leave room for your words to fall. Let the rhythm relax in the song as in "one and two -one and two" instead of oney and a two, oney and a two. You can pick it up to accent where needed.Just my thoughts Mike.Dave

I Like 4 best. but 3 does get you groovin, it might be too happy a groove for the content, but I'd pitch either, or both, where ever it's close to applicable, and let them figure it out.nice work.Dave

V4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4-4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Sorry dude-- board has been so busy I missed this one. I would love to hear version 4 taken more Snow Patrol -- with building layers and drums kicking in -- bgv not so obvious. Very good song. The "another day" hook is more obvious in the sparser arrangement too. I missed it in V5.V5 is cool too. A good song can go many directions didn't strike me as bass heavy. Don't love the rhodes thing-- like the part, just too mellow/bellsy for my taste-- but that ain't my genre either. Also the strings in this one sound very synthy, but V4 I don't get that.There's something about your vocal sound that bugs me a bit (has for a while as I recall) - not your voice... it's like there's a slight flange... could it be you track in a small vocal booth and you are getting reflections??? for your voice and style-- IMHO your vocal sound should be very crisp and natural. Check out Freddy's track in the Taxi favorites. That's the vocal sound I "hear" for your voice. (I met Freddy at the Rally -- killer stuff!!!)btw-- great to have you back around. Hey Michael,I love this song. The melodies are wonderful! My own opinion is that this song is dying to live in todays modern production. I would combine the elements of V3 and V4.The cello gives it a distinct sound in V4 but the song feels like molasses at this tempo and really wants to soar in the chorus section, but feels bogged down. It also may be that since there is little subdivision going on in the groove that you get that feeling.The tempo in V3 is much closer. I would add some modern elements into the drum programming if you decide to go this way. Do you own Stylus RMX? Here is where you can take some cool little percussive element and give it a push into today's production style.I realize that I need to post some of my own stuff if I'm going to critique and I will, but I felt compelled to comment on this one as the song is worth it.Best,Cisco

Hi Michael,I really like everything about this song...I'm with the crowd V4 is my favorite... What I was waiting for ( really wanting to hear) is about 3/4 through the song a gentle drum fill, and a simple drum sound to fill in and break the solemnest of the song. Then I'd drop the drums out and end it like you started it.Good luck with it.....this song has a definite future...Bob
