Quote:Alright, this will be my last version of Danny Boy Hopefully folks will take the torch and post some of your own versions. This one is a bit of a compromise between the two. The melody is there the whole time. The harmonies are a bit more pronounced.Danny Boy V3Originally I had Pachelbel's Canon in D Major going against the melody, but I decided against that. The two can fit together surprisingly well. I kept parts of the backing chord structure. nice harmonies really sell your take on it. the organ in the back I think needs to be pushed back... the sustain grates after a while (mind you, I was just recording bagpipes for an hour). if you can, try an oboe or something that's a little warmer... or perhaps have it play bass instead of treble. otherwise I like it a lot... it's interesting. IMO, keep the vocals and play with the instrumentation.H

I just listened to V2 and listening to V3 right now.I can't really decide which one i like better, I prefer the vocal harmonies in 3, but i also prefer the "pop-ier" musical arrangement of V2.So here is my .02....I think you should submit two versions. One based on 2 and one based on 3, for $5 you won't have to kick yourself over whether you submitted the correct one.I really enjoyed listening to both of the versions.I also feel that V2 is still within the parameters of the listing.Rob

v 3 was fine and technically within the parameters of the song but I'm still of a mind that v 2 jes does it for me. Totally in a good way, of course.

Sorry all to bump this thread again SW,I have been away on business for 5 days and am back to surf through the boards and to toss my half a cent onto this pile of songwriters, of poets, of jesters, of purveyors of soul-food, of masters of craft and of players of heart strings. And through all this fodder, I just cannot pull myself away from your versions of Danny Boy. I just can't. I wish I could.I think V2 is just absolutely beautiful. But I love the cut and thrust of the lead and harmony vocals in V3. V2 has a great build, V3 has a great resolve, and the pipes in V3 are killing. But the delayed gtr samples in V2 are the perfect prodrome to the V3 execution. Please let us know which you submitted. I know you would probably wish for this kind of interest in one of your original tracks (I haven't followed all of your work) but this work is very, very inspiring to me. And others around here I'm sure.Liam

I just wanted to say, I'm sad to see Songwriter is gone. A very talented musician and singer, and also a very helpful mate. May the sun shine upon your face, SW.hugsVikki
