I've got a solo piano piece for the following listingA wide range of EMOTIONAL INSTRUMENTALS (no vocals) are sought by an LA-based Documentary Production Co. for an indie film about female bodybuilders. They're open to sad/heartfelt ballad-like pieces for some of the more poignant scenes of the film to "victorious" pieces for scenes that highlight the competition's winners. With that in mind, they don't want "happy" or "joyous" pieces -- think more dramatic and serious. Instrumentally, they're open to piano tracks to strings to wind instruments. Tracks should be at least 1:00 minute long. A company's rep will screen the submissions. Songs must be Broadcast Quality (excellent sounding home recordings are OK). Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. How did you record this? I could be wrong, but the piano does sound like it needs a little more legato/sustain in the playing.

Thanks for the feedback.I recorded it on my midi keyboard playing to a click track and did some minor corrections (extra notes, missed notes, modify some velocities, etc.) but didn't do any quantization. I felt that something didn't seem to work quite right with the track - I think it may be the legato issue you brought up (both of you). Frankly this take was my first one - mostly improvisation. I really liked the way it turned out and so just changed a couple of notes and kept it. I probably will practice it a few times and then re-record it.What about the piano sample itself?Trent

I agree with the others- particularly in the left hand, I'd like to hear more sustain - either by adding sustain pedal, or perhaps try lengthening the notes by 10% in your sequencer? I'm listening through earbuds, so I can't comment on the sample itself.

It was an overall impression, but yes, I was mostly talking about the sample. Though it might be the sample that makes it sound "stiff".

It's a lovely melody, well done. At first it sounded a bit 70s to me and that's definitely the sample. I might've gone with a more mellow sounding keyboard for an emotional piece like this.....the brightness of tone accentuates the jagged playing (in spots) and the missing sustain. It jes doesn't have the relaxed, conversant flow required to really fulfill the promise of the melody. Easily taken care of by practicing it again and re-recording it. The tone of the piano is jes my personal preference. It's a lovely song.

Thank you all so much for your input and feedback. I can hear what you all are talking about and agree with you. I couldn't seem to hear it last night when I was working on it - I wasn't happy with it, but couldn't tell what needed fixing.Besides practicing it and re-recording it, I will play around with different piano samples as well to find a better fit. I tend to like bright pianos (real as well as sampled), but I can see how this piece doesn't fit the brighter sound.Trent
