Classical Electronica listing...
Well, here I am again doing this at the last minute. I should be coming to the board for advice earlier.Anyway, Electronica isn't my forte, but classical is, so I'm interested in your take on my sumission for this listing:CLASSICAL INSTRUMENTAL PIECES in current ELECTRONICA-style ARRANGEMENTS are sought by an LA-based Music Library owned by veterans of that industry. Think well-known/Public Domain pieces by Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Chopin, etc. etc. but arranged/performed as Electronica instrumentals (all styles of Electronica are OK (from Downtempo to Breakbeat to Techno, etc. etc.). ...Here's my version:In the Hall of the Mountain King (by Edvard Grieg)There are some mixing mistakes I still need to fix, and I'd really like to replace my synth guitar with a real one. But, I usually have a couple weeks to fix things between the submission deadline and when the Taxi screeners get around to listening to the song. However, this listing is a YES/NO listing, bypassing the Taxi screeners. So, I'm not sure how much time I have to fix things on this listing. Does anyone here know?Is this anywhere close to a legitimate Electronica style? If so, which style? (I know, if I have to ask, I haven't listened to enough Electronica!)Thanks for your help, everyone.Kevin

Hi Kevin, nice job, it sounds pretty much on-target to me. I think you're right about the guitar part. I was just beginning to think that everything sounded a tad too rigid, when that chage kicked in. A real guitar would certainly add some dynamics to the melody.Overall though, I think you've managed to retain the kind of sinister/ominous feel of the original.Best of luck with it
It's a fine line between a thick soup and stew.

I believe that sometimes the screener is actually the listing party (or end user), even with yes/no listings. Call the office if you wanna know for sure, then let us know too, please. They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal -- you keep your original copyrights. Broadcast quality needed. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY -- NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. Yes, all listings are screened by screeners, except the ones that say 'the listing party will screen submissions'. You just don't get a critique.H

If I were you I'd start the piece at 1:22 where that guitar comes in. That's where it comes to life. The mix seems a little muddy to me. Good work.H

Re: Classical Electronica listing...
I called the Taxi office, as Steve suggested, and I was told that yes, Yes/No listings do get reviewed more quickly, because the client themselves are doing the screening. But, how soon depends on where I am in the que. Since I submitted my composition today, I'm probably further down the que, so I'll still probably have at least a couple days before they get to my submission.Of course, if I'm the only one submitting to that listing, then all bets are off. They might get to my song tomorrow!

Hey Kevin,it's interesting, but it's not really Electronica. The way I read the listing they are looking for "electronica treatments" of classical themes, not a classical/electronica/prog hybrid, which is what this is IMHO.But I could be wrong...matto

And, that may kill the deal for me. I really need to listen to more electronica. A lot of the stuff I listen to that is sort of electronica-esque tends to be movie scores, but I'm starting to realize that a lot of the things I listen to are merely electronica influenced rather than fit squarely into the genre of "electronica" -- such as scores like "The Matrix" (particularly the underscore cues created by Juno Reactor and Don Davis together).Maybe that's what I really want to write for -- blockbuster movies.
