Genre/Listing comments please

Post by geo » Mon Nov 05, 2007 10:58 am

Classic-sounding POP FOLK / SOFT ROCK / SINGER-SONGWRITER SONGS a la Don Mclean, Tom Petty, John Denver, Jim Croce, Jackson Brown, Paul Simon, etc. are needed by a new LA-based Music Library being started by veterans of that industry. Great vocals and instrumental performances are essential. No lyrical restrictions -- all themes are OK. They offer a non-exclusive, 50/50 split deal -- you keep your original copyrights. Broadcast quality needed. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY -- NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. For ground submissions, please enclose a S.A.S.E. if you would like a response. Submissions must be received by Nov. 15, 2007.TAXI # Y071115SS Hey guys here's the listing,I'm reading this as TV/Movie listing, I know they're a bit of a stretch (got a little island feel, not classic sounding) but I'm thinking of redoing "Young & Free" with a stripped down acoustic treatment (with sax instead of lead guitar) to give it more of a singer/songwriter feel. "I wannabe Free" was critiqued previously, (7's & 8's, seemed to like the song) but was returned because the lyrics were too personal for a song pitch(they are ), but I was hoping they would be OK here. So, worth a shot (I hate the NO CRITIQUE ones) or not? Like I said I know they're a stretch. These mixes are set but any arrangement/production suggestions would be welcomed for future consideration. Thanks, Geohttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=6156 ... =trueYoung and FreeLyrics and music by George W. Danielscopyright 1995Verse 1:As a child I walked by the Mission,Standing there like some distant outpost.Soldiers brave, their banners wave,Now it seems they need help the most.Verse 2:Violence flares outside the mission,The choir sings but to no avail.Generations have grown despondent,Police are wardens when your country’s a jail.Break:Tell me what do you believe, desire or concede?Do we differ or agree, is this how it should be?Chorus:Young and free what we wanted to be,It’s plain to see that’s not what happened to me.Could not see the world would bring me to my knees? Please help me, Lord be young and free.Verse 3:Children play, blissfully ignorant,In the refuse of our modern times.Parents struggle to carve an existence, Disillusioned freedom’s ours to find. Break / Solo / Chorus I wannabe FreeLyrics and music by George Danielscopyright 2007Verse 1:There comes a time in all our lives, when things don’t seem like they’re going down right,Rent’s due, the landlord complains, can’t stop the rain from coming down,You go on up to 42nd street, rock in your pocket, people to meet,Chained to this rock is where you want to be, a slave to your vice, my brother, You’ll never be free,Never be free.Verse 2:Sitting at home, we’re treated like fools, by politicians selling out the Golden Rule,Another building goes up, no heritage to be found, they say it’s for us but I don’t recognize this town.Big money, big business, they say it’s for me, I have to disagree,I don’t want to be judged for another man’s crimes, my brother I can’t do the time, I wannabe free,I wannabe free.Break:I say, you’re a fool, politicians you break all the rules,I say, liberty, and equal rights for all humanity.I say, rich man poor, got what you want, why you taking more?I say, prophecy, all I really want, I wannabe free... Wannabe free,I just wannabe free, SoloVerse3:What have we become, we danced in the sun, together we prayed when our families were one,The problem didn’t start with the youth of today, you disguised the truth, it never went away. The walls closed in, the bottom dropped out, look to the future there can be no doubt,I’m not chained to this rock, I’m never gonna stop, the music’s gonna take me where I want to be,I wannabe free,I just wannabe free.

Hi Geo!!I think the stripped down acoustic version is a great idea. Also, I wish I could comment on the "no lyric restrictions" detail but all I've ever been able to glean from those is that they'll take any subject matter as long as it's good. I would think Free would be fine, myself.Good luck, let us know!

Geo,The songs seem close enough to me to take a shot at this listing. Why not? Only a few bucks risked.Of course, the stripped down acoustic version would fit even better. I like the tunes. Maybe a whole 'free' CD from you??? Dean

Thanks Dean, these are blast from my past, Bermuda is 22 square miles so some of earlier songs delt with my feelings of being trapped on the Rock (along with the angst of youth ). I'll send these two and we're going to see if we can get the alternative version together on Monday, I'll post if I can, thanks again... GeoP.S. Hope you all had a great time at the Rally
