Quote:Wow, guys, what a good song! Great vocal, melody, production and a really good lyric. The line 'what she was twenty years ago lost its nerve' is sublime. You really have a very good voice, Squids. Can I have a copy for my iPod sometime ? Really Ala's... hmm... it reminded me of some of Regina Spektor's stuff. 2c.LiamHi Liam,You're so nice, thank you a lot. And yep, you caught the line that really got me on that song. Sometimes lyricists just hit a nerve and chits hooked me deep on that line alone. I was a goner the second I read it. I'll PM you lata. Gotta go run some errands.

Quote:Nita, Chits,Excellent song. Really, really like it. Everything ... lyric, melody, music, performance .. everything. Ala's .. maybe Michelle Branch, with some Suzanne Vega, even a little Avril Lavigne. DeanHey Dean,You really hit the nail on the head....I think chits and I mentioned these writers in our discussions during pre-production (except for Avril and I was aiming for her toward the end of the song so thanks for noticing!).Thanks so much for taking the time to listen. Everyone's in a tizzy around here getting ready for the Rally. Don't know if you're going or not, but I do know it takes time to listen to songs. I appreciate the input a lot.

Quote:First off, thanks to everyone for the good feedback and suggestions about the song. I'd also like to say that co-writing with Squids was such a pleasure.....man, getting to work with such a beautiful voice and and such a good engineer of melodies and production......well, you can't ask for anything better. She really gave 'Burbs a life. Plus, I got a chance to write outside my genre (country) and I really felt challenged. Thanks for giving me this opportunity, Squiddy! chits, I don't wanna get all.....ya know, gushy, but it was so great to do this song. Thanks so much for letting me have carte blanche with it. I know that's hard to do (I can't do it!) and you did it with grace. I sure appreciate it.

She is my all time favorite songwriter.....just one of the influences I hope we captured. Thanks to Liam, Bill, Geo, Trent, and Dean for all your thoughts as well.

I would agree with several of the ala comments above, but here's what struck me--at about 1:45 somebody with a unique range, power and delivery stepped into the room. I just went - wow!! Who cares about sounding like someone else. I want to hear more of that!!! Be alto proud. Focus on that. Happened again at 2:32 - who IS that. The other vocals are okay, but didn't knock me out. THAT did. I'd love to hear this a few steps down in your range with some more gusto. That's my two cents. On to the fries Aub

Gotta agree with the Suzanne Vega comparison. I'm also hearing a lot of similarity to OLD Aimee Mann/Til Tuesday. Very very nice, as she's another old fave of mine.Very cool job on this one, ladies.Ted

Hi Squids & Chits Very Joni.... And now that it's been mentioned, Suzanne Vega is also on-target for an "a la"... (Isn't that a cute reverse twist of the "a la" and "on-target" expressions?)Very nice... The power of two Southern Gals... You gals are fixin' to write a song together, eh? LOL... You didn't ask for detailed feedback on the song itself, just "a la's"... So I'll keep the thread in "a la land"... Casey
