I got to listen to this before everyone else did... I don't know the "a la's" but I do have to say I think the lyrics, melody & singer are awesome! Great work, you two!!!cheersHummin'bird

Thanks much, everyone. That's very nice of you to say. I really, really appreciate the thought going into the ala's. I know it's hard. For this song especially.

Quote:Quote:Absolutely love this track..... on my third listen..I'd say Suzzane Vega meets Joni Mitchell....BobI'm just taking a break from the padded room with speakers that I've called home lately -- having a healthy double QP w/cheese to offset my slimfast lunch and took a listen. I would agree with several of the ala comments above, but here's what struck me--at about 1:45 somebody with a unique range, power and delivery stepped into the room. I just went - wow!! Who cares about sounding like someone else. I want to hear more of that!!! Be alto proud. Focus on that. Happened again at 2:32 - who IS that. The other vocals are okay, but didn't knock me out. THAT did. I'd love to hear this a few steps down in your range with some more gusto. That's my two cents. On to the fries AubHi Aub.That's really sweet. I do power up in those spots. It's to heighten the lyrics, not to impress anyone with my guts. The song's already in my range (I'm an alto to mezzo girl full-throated and a soprano in falsetto), I just don't oversing it. Been there, done that. And it was really.....you know.....boring for me. On a howlin' tune, I'll let 'er rip but the lyrics didn't lend themselves to that sort of thing, I didn't think. Could be wrong about that. I really appreciate the feedback. Very kind of you to take the time and frame a response and ala's. I know how hard that is. Hope the QP set you up. (you're on slim-fast? how's that working out for you?)

Quote:Coming in late to this, but basically.. what everyone else said!Definately a Joni/Vega flavour to the vocal, and lets face it, that aint bad company to be in.I like it. Nicely producrd and great voice imo. If I was in the producer's chair, I might try an acoustic guitar in there. After all, that particular style of voice pretty much always goes alongside an acoustic guitar doesn't it?Anyway, don't you love it when you get a new keyboard. I've been typing/editing this for 20mins Great job, all involved. Looking forward to some more. Hmmm, thanks for your suggestions and nice thoughts, David. The acoustic guitar could fit well here, I agree....we'll submit as is for now, but that is always something to think about down the line. Yes, Vikki, you were the first to listen to the song in various stages....thanks so much for your very sweet comments here. That means a lot coming from you. Matt, thanks so much for your thoughts as well. I always look foward to your comments. Squids and I actually gave considerable thought to changing the 'what she was twenty years ago' and 'in her twenties she wanted to sing in a band' lines. We tried to substitute some other lines believing we'd make the song more relevant for the 'twenty something' group, but the newer lines just never had the 'teeth' that the original ones did. Upon further thought, we just decided that this song still might resonate with 20 year olds (even with a person in their twenties singing it) because a lot of (not all) twenty somethings are disdainful of suburban life, and this song speaks to those who think living in the suburbs is sometimes a hollow existance. That being said, I would agree that this could end up being a better film and tv pitch when it all shakes out.....we could target it to a flick with that type of topic. I have no problem with just pitching it to film and tv. In fact, I'm glad that I now have music to do so. My other demoes have fairly large fees attached to them if I want master signoffs, so therefore, I haven't been able to pitch to film and tv......I feel liberated, LOL.I've really enjoyed this collaboration. That's the beauty of this board. For those of us who don't live L. A. or Nashville (although I only live three hours away from Nashville)....well, TAXI is providing us with a wonderful service. This place has provided a way to network, and that's what it's all about.....creating new music. So yes, we hope to write more tunes. I've also written some tunes with Steve Davis, another co-writer and TAXI member. I posted one of his tunes on another thread....he does a great job as well. And I'm working on a tune with Elser, so we'll see how all this goes.....we're all having fun.

Hey Chitlips (hee hee, my new name for this dynamic duo songwriting team )I wouldn't worry about changing a word or two here or there to make it appeal to a younger audience. This is because a song about just another day in the 'burbs probably wouldn't fit a very young market anyway. And that is what this song is all about so it is what it is! I think you should first make it a great song and worry more about the a la's later. It will fit somewhere, especially with these great lyrics. I have some thoughts on this first demo but I want to dig out my Joni Mitchell "Blue" album first for stimulation... Casey

Wow, that was a great song, I really enjoyed it.Here is my .02 for the a la's... I can see the similarities to the Joni/S Vega, very AAA. I don't think Jewel of even Sheryl Crow would be a stretch. I can see the Michelle Branch comparisons as well.Great job.

Chits and Squid -- very cool song, I walked away singing "just another day, just another day...in the burbs" for a couple of hours. I listened first before reading the other comments and my first thought was Joni Mitchell meets Michelle Branch with a tiny dash of Sara McLachlan (?). Loved the vocals. Good job ya'll!Tricia

LOL, Case, cool new name. I'm just glad my name doesn't start with an 's.' Hmmm, give us your thoughts after the JM listen. Thanks, Dusty. I can definitely hear Jewel or Sheryl here.Stkeb, uh oh, it's the curse of the hook, hehe....something you can't get out of your head.....glad you liked it though, and thanks. I'd also like to thank everyone for all the 'ala's'.

One thing I'd like to say.....I'm so proud of Squid's production and engineering of the song, her melody lines, her singing....I just can't say that enough. And I'm equally happy that she worked with me 'coz she gave me the opportunity to expand my horizons here. I have long been thought of as only a country writer, so I got a chance to try on a new outfit. And as musicians and songwriters, we know that's what it's all about. I have no idea where 'Burbs will go, if it will get foward, or if it won't, but it's sure a lot of fun getting on that plane ride of possibilities. And you gotta believe. Antonio, I will send you a PM in the future...I'm heading outside right now 'coz hubby's got the day off and we're gonna go play. Whee!

Quote:And too much tom tom action in the drum tracks for contemporary production...the toms sound kind of "fake" on top of it, so not the best choice there production wise.Hope this helps. mattoReal toms. Thanks for the weigh-in though, I appreciate it.
