Walk on the Wild Side
Just got this dispatch listing yesterday: New Listing The Music Supervisor for an LA-based Trailer House/Advertising Co. needs a COVER VERSION of the famous Lou Reed song “WALK ON THE WILD SIDE” (from his 1972 release “Transformer”) for a new film trailer project. The supervisor wants a “more energetic” version than the original. Great performances are essential. Male or female vocals are OK, but male are definitely preferred. Broadcast quality needed. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. For ground submissions, please enclose a S.A.S.E. if you would like a response. As always, we will notify everyone via e-mail, whether your submissions have been Forwarded or Returned. Submissions must be received no later than 4:00 PM, Pacific Standard Time (California time), Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007. TAXI # D071030WSHere's what I put together today...just curious to see what you guys think!"Walk on the Wild Side"http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... trueThanks in advance Dan

Thanks, glad you like it! They weren't incredibly specific with what they wanted, but this is just what came out...so I'll keep my fingers crossed that they'll like it too Dan

Re: Walk on the Wild Side
Hey, Dan.Gotta say ... I LOVE the original SO much, I was having trouble getting into it at the beginning. But the deeper I went into it, the MORE I was into it. There's very little more difficult than "remaking" a classic and having it still work on so many (or AS many) levels. I may not have the knowledge or experience of some of the members here, but I say that's a fantastic job --in VERY short order-- of a very tough request. I fully expect to hear from you in a few weeks that this one made it through. Nice work.Ted

Thanks for all of the responses guys! I'm really glad that you all seem to like it so much. It's always really helpful to hear back commentary...and it's always fun when it's positive And as far as the vocals being slightly out of sync, it was intentional Thanks again guys!Dan

Re: Walk on the Wild Side
Quote:i'm waiting fo rthe chipmunks to digitize my version of this as i speak.i was torn with this listing on which way to go with it, i decided to keep it more like the original. after hearing dans version i think he may have hit the more energetic better than i. i wish they would've specified the leval of energetic better, maybe they could say "red bull" energetic or "diet coke" energetic, that would be helpful. anyway, this will be interesting to see which they are looking for. i'm just glad to be able to crank something out on the short notice, and ya never know if you don't try.p.s i haven't submitted yet, do you think my doo section is ok, my back-up singers where out-of town this weekend so i had to do'em myself.dan, your version is really good. good luck!marc"Walk on the Wild Side"http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=trueI think if I would have submitted that I would have boiled down the listing description into something even less detailed rather than more detailed. I got "we want a high energy level that's noticeably different than the original" as I read between the lines of the listing. I doubt they know themselves the exact level of energy that's going to be just right. Now hopefully you get a forward , but if not, sometimes another point of view on the interpretation of the listing can help with another listing. Of the two, Dan's is obvious that it's a "high energy level that's noticeably different than the original" track. I'd tend to lean toward his interpretation as being closest to the intent of the listing. Of course if I'm dead wrong then I'm perfectly happy to have my point of view serve as a good example of bad insight and advice.

Re: Walk on the Wild Side
Hi MarcI really enjoyed your version... I do think it's too close to the original, feeling more like a "cover" than a more energetic interpretation. It's a bit mellow too. I guess there's not much time left, but are you thinking of giving it another shot? Cheers,Casey

Cool tracks guys... it's interesting to hear the different takes on the listing. We really wanted to throw our hat into this ring, but too many projects right now -- but if we'd just had one more day

Re: Walk on the Wild Side
BillReally good vocal performance and I see you got hold of some doo doo girls Did you submit?Quote:Well here's what I had for the listing. Actually not sure if I'm going to submit it unless I get some time to mix it better. Mine is not only too mellow I think, but not nearly as good a recording as Marcs. I sang it an octave higher though . . . does that count as energy?http://www.broadjam.com/transmit/transm ... yhgbndsq=1
