Hey, Bill,I listened to yours that was forwarded. Nice. Sounds like something the kids at the beach would be dancing to in an Annette Funicello movie. You really caught it. Yeo, the double snare hit on two brings me back. Hmm...a lot of the surf hits were in minor keys, but that background dance music was almost always in a major key, wasn't it? I never even thought of those old surf movies until I heard your piece. Flash! Key may be an issue after all. Maybe you have to make those kids in the movie wiggle. I dunno. Whew! This screening is pretty tough work for an amateur. I am glad I don't have to do it everyday, because it can take me hours to arrive where a good screener gets to in five or six minutes, and then I still don't know if I am there...

I had no idea there were this many surf tune writers around.I never wrote a surf tune in my life until 2 days ago when I was just foolin' around.I guess Surfs Up.Anyway I liked your song and thought it appropriate for yhe listing. After hearing some others that got forwarded I think it is clear they are after something in a major key as opposed to a minor.

Hmmm, I was really surprised (and thankful) to get a forward for this listing. I only submitted one piece, and it was in a minor key! There goes a lot of analysis down the drain. I have come to the conclusion I have no way of explaining why one individual piece is forwarded and another rejected. But with my record perhaps I had better stop trying to direct traffic before I cause a massive pileup.

Jumpin in on this kind of late, but I was really surprised not to get forward, too. Here's my piece, "Waves Overhead", if anyone wouldn't mind telling me what they think the problem was....http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... Thanks!Dan

There is a good vibe to your track and it sounds well put together to me. However, it doesn't seem to me to have a enough of a surfin' vibe, I could hear it in a Western, though. I think you're just off target. If you listen to billg's forward, it has the surfin vibe and also a sense of fun. It's just a little more 'out there' in terms of 'surf'.

Hey Dan, I like your track. It's pretty hard to figure why some songs were forwarded & others weren't for the listing (especially now that my minor key theory has been shot down!) remember though that it's always possible that there may be info or requirements we're not aware of. That's the thing about the "no critique" listings, sometimes we just have to scratch our heads & then forget it - billg

I really believe what they were looking for was not the type of surf instrumentals that were hits, but the kind that were in the background of surf movies like all the Frankie Avalon and Funicello flicks. There is a lighthearted aspect to surf music I had forgotten about and was only reminded of when I listened to Bill's piece. We have a scene with dialogue going on in the foreground and in the background are kids wiggling to music. The music is insanely upbeat, as are some of the dancers. I would bet "upbeat" is the ticket to the ball here.Several very good High Chaparral/Bonanza/ Magnificent Seven type pieces got rejected, which tells us something rather specific. My own minor piece was not of that variety. I don't know why it made it, but true to Dave's observations, I could care less about analyzing why one of my pieces did get forwarded. It is the rejections one pores over. Perhaps the forwards should be studied with the same intensity.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about it. I know that it's a good track, so I guess they were just looking for something different. My one main thought has been that maybe it just wasn't '60s enough. It's definitely surf, but a maybe a bit too modern. Thanks for the response though everyone!Dan
