I had to get this one done in a jiffy to hit this listing:SUSPENSEFUL & ACTION-ORIENTED ORCHESTRAL INSTRUMENTALS (no vocals) a la the soundtracks to the films "The Natural" (Randy Newman) and "Gladiator" (Hans Zimmer) are sought by the Music Supervisor of a major cable TV sports network. Big, bombastic type pieces are OK (think battle scenes, for example)I went for the battle vibe:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... &stream=1I missed on the marching band music, hopefully this one is closer to what they want!Mazz

Nice work in a jiffy. I'm on laptop now so can't hear it in full glory, so I'll try to comment more later. I really loved the beginning. A few of the faster chord changes seemed slightly awkward on first listen - almost more surprising than suspenseful -- may not be a big deal, but that was my first impression. The only quick mix comment is that I wish the drums were bigger, but that may be my crappy speakers.I think you're very close to the target here, if not dead center.Aub

Dude. This is really good. I listened in full glory while taking lunch -- I can hear that NFL films voice guy talking over the intro. I would love to hear a longer version, giving more tension before the build - that's a better explanation than my description last night. The drums do sound fuller, but there's a snare?? pattern that almost sounds like a shaker it's so thin. Maybe that's the effect you want, but I'd love to hear some more bite to that pattern.Me bets forward

Aub,Thanks for the listen. I actually thinned out the snare that comes in at the beginning because it was pretty thick in the low mids and I thought it was muddying up the mix a bit. I could be wrong, I know my room isn't giving me everything my speakers are putting out so I might be making some wrong judgements.I have an idea to buss the big percussion to another buss and compress it by itself. I have the UAD Fairchild and it gives fantastic punch which still squeezing hard if needed. This way the low drums don't pull the entire mix down when I do the buss comp. I just bought the UAD Precision Maximizer which is way cool but I think a little goes a long way!Thanks again, keep up the good work!Mazz

I did a re-master on this piece putting the percussion on a seperate buss and compressing them as a group. I think it's much more punchy now. I also eq'd the snare drum per Aub's suggestion and took some low mids out of the choir and punched up the highs to make them stand out a bit more.Any feedback appreciated.Mazz

Sounds like a snare now -- it may be the mp3 or stream compression, but it sounds like some of the bass of the lower percussion (tam or taiko?) is ever so slightly breaking up (like halfway through), like it's jut barely overdriving --- but that's being VERY picky. Just something to double check. Very good mix.Screener Aub says-- to the network!!
