She Got Groove - next to last song for album
Sorry for the drive-by post, but things have been crazy. Got a few hours this weekend to crank out song #11 of our project (with hopes for submissions as well) #12 just needs vocals, a few mix tweaks on some of the other tracks-- and we're finished! For this one, it's a rewrite of a rewrite of a rewrite . I'm posting a faders up mix, with hopes of actually mixing it tonight. There are several glaring "mix" issues that will get better, but I would appreciate some feedback before I lock myself in the booth. (and yes I know "She got groove" ain't good grammar ) Stylistically it's the neo-psychedelic garage band thing. (In case you haven't heard our stuff, you could check out Psychedelic Sneakers on www.taxi.com/aubdelane for a reference.)Here's the link. Thanks!!She Got GrooveVs1 She got a parking lot That she calls a driveway Doesn’t really matter She never needs a car She wears taxi fare They all want to drive her Traffic cop makes a stop To see if she’s a star Chorus She doesn’t need to go anywhere To get to where she’s going Wherever she is she’s already there And you can’t help but notice She got groove (She got it)(She got groove)Vs2 She got a sweater top That she never sweats in Changes like the weather But never loses cool Lipstick politics Make up her ambitions High heeled minefields Blowing all the rules Chorus She’s doesn’t need to go anywhere To get to where she’s going Wherever she is she’s already there And you can’t help but notice She got groove Bridge She got the groove that moves you She got the look that books are written about The world is a dance floor And she got groove Chorus She doesn’t need to go anywhere To get to where she’s going Wherever she is she’s already there And you can’t help but notice She got groove (She got it)(She got groove)

Smokin' Aub! Can't wait to hear the final mix.My only small comment is that the intro might be a touch too long. I wonder if it would still have the impact and vibe if every little build section was half as long? Can't wait for the mix!Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

It will be easy to make some edits with a shorter intro as needed. Didn't have quite as much time tonight as I had hoped for, but here's the first master. She Got Groove

Hey Aub,I like the new mix. I wonder if you may be hitting the master buss compressor a bit too hard? Everything sounds great and balanced but maybe a bit too squashed?I'm aware that my speakers tend to hide vocals a bit but I still felt like I wanted to hear a bit more vocal but I'm not totally familar with the aesthetics of modern pop/rock so I could be off base on that point.I sense another forward in your future!Mazz

yeah I listened last nite and thought the vox are VERY quiet, even considering the lo-fi fx on 'em.

good points... i agree with both. the toms got out of hand.. it's not the master bus comp, but the second drum comp buss that's crapping out with the toms i think. Missed it last night, but fresh ears made me cringe. The vox is also just a bit down. I'll tweak later when I get a window of time.THANKS!!!! This forum is like having producers on call Aub

Aub,AHH the punch is there now! The vocals are there now too!One more tiny thing. I love the backing vox on the first two lines of the chorus and I know you do too. I think if you folded those in just a little more, they'd still have the effect you want but it would make the lead vocal pop a bit more without having to turn it up. I lose the first few words just a little bit there. DON'T change the level of those backing vocals anywhere else!!!On cans I heard some distortion on the lead vocal in the bridge but I think it's the vocal hitting the filter a bit harder on some words and I don't know if you want that or not, just thought I'd mention it.Excellent work!!Mazz

Hey Aub,Jes gettin' to this one. Fun!! I know the effect you're going for on the lead vocal there and you're almost there (seconds away).....I guess it depends on the mood you're going for. If you want it intense, I'd do as mazz suggests and bring down the backups a little. OR you can do an in-your-face vocal mix, very up front. I think with the vox effect there're dangers but what the heck, you can change it back, right? The song has big punch but the lead vox is just okay volume-wise and it feels, based on the effect, that it should have as much intensity as the instruments. That's jes me though..Neat song!

Re: She Got Groove - next to last song for album
Thanks guys. I'm under a huge work load now, so i'm working on this one between the cracks. Mazz, you've got some good ears in those cans. I actually heard that in the bridge, but thought no one would catch it...lol. For the chorus vocal, dipping the bgv will help a bit, but I'm also going to try panning the lead vox stacks center as opposed to hard R,L. It's a subtle difference, but I think it may help the vox sit better in the mix on this one.I'm not happy yet. The guitars have lost a little punch-- and I think the vox fx is too tiring for both verses and the bridge. Next window I get, then I'll try some different things. Great feedback sure helps in this process!!!Aub
