First time here...
This is my first time posting a song here, so please be brutally honest. I have been reading the posts here for awhile and have decided to see what others think/hear I think I'll throw in a vocal tune called "It's Over", for critique.http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... s!ZachFell Boyzs

Listening now... LOVE the horns... very nice touch. Good mood. Nice guitar playing. You held it in check for the most part, without succumbing to the inner voice that says "play fast NOW". I often have to fight that voice, and I often lose I enjoyed it.With the vocals, I'm quite sure if I'm right here, but are they a little too "high-endy"? It's almost as if they stand out too much from the song, frequency-wise. You have a very good voice though. I'm not sure about this next thing... is there a timing issue roughly when the drums come in? Could be my imagination. Maybe someone else can weigh in on that.I have to say though... I loved the horns and really enjoyed the song. That solo at the end made me scrunch up my face in that good "guitar player" way, especially on some of those sweet bends. Great mood overall.So really, most of my criticism comes from looking for things that are wrong, not things that would strike me on a casual listen. Good job, my friend.Dave

Cool atmospheric jazz feel. Very nice voice too. Sax sounds good. I kinda agree with the comment about the vocals - cause in this piece, which is vocally sparse, it feels like the vocals should be warmly in the centre of the instruments - in other words, mixed as though it's a soloing instrument too.I'm not sure about the 51 sec intro or the song length of 5:05. but perhaps someone more knowledgeabout about this style can comment on that, if it's an issue.Nicely done.

Thanks! We are a funky jazzy rocky fusion-ey style of group I have always thought my brothers vocals were very fitting for what we do. Like I mentoned above hopefully mastering will help out with that, or I'll remix the vocals down. HI!I'm also pretty new here and not even a taxi member yet, but I hope you don't mind to hear my opinion ... As Dave already mentioned the vocals are not where they should be, but the rest is fine. I even would prefer MORE instrumental parts - i like the solos very much. What genre... hm... I'd call it smooth jazz, but then again I know people who hate to be called smooth jazzer because it's "something bad". So I don't mean it that way - more like "chill out jazz". But THEN AGAIN... chill out jazz might indicate also some electronics... so... I have no idea! Sorry!Bye!Marcin

This is not really my thing musically, so I'll defer to the more stylistically knowledgable posters on that. However, there are a few mixing things I'd change off the top of my head. In no particular order:* The vocals are about the right brightness overall, but badly need some de-essing, because that's really giving away that they're processed. You should probably also heavily de-ess the delay and reverb sends, which will also make the effects sound more natural. I'd probably also go for a delay time of twice what you've chosen -- eighth notes seem a bit hurried for such a laid-back sound.* The drums sound a little anaemic in a way that would make me look at my compression settings. Parallel compression would probably be a good way to go here to bring up the background character of the drums, cymbals, and room ambience. Reverb won't do the same job, although it's of course going to be part of the final recipe. I'd also for my own taste fade up the snare close mic more (especially for the side-stick bits), and maybe the kick a little too because it seems a bit too dominated by the bass at the moment. Bizarrely, you might find that boosting the high mid-range frequencies (maybe 1-2kHz) of the kick might help it cut through better.* The brass reverb doesn't seem to gel with the sounds of the instruments themselves or the track as a whole. It sounds like you're using too much of a too short reverb, which is putting the section too far into the background for me. I'd also maybe look at increasing the reverb predelay a little here as well, as that'd be another way to reduce the distancing effect of the reverb. In some respects I like how it is already, but just because I like the slightly disembodied effect, and I'm not sure that's what you're after.* The guitar solo is crying out for a bit of tempo-delay, timed for quarter notes. If you're going to do it, though, get busy with the filtering/EQ to get rid of the low-end and high-end of the effect return, because this'll make it sound more like a natural echo.Not sure any of that will have made any sense, so let me know if I need to clarify what I mean...
