Re: Decision time. Any Advice?
Hi Allen,I like the Phrygian sounding harmonies in this piece. The repetitive melody was OK for me, it kind of fits the middle eastern vibe. What wasn't working for me is that the low end of the rhythm section never stepped up to the plate to support the emotional peaks when the distorted guitar came in. It sounded to me like the loop pretty much repeated itself over and over no matter what was going on over the top of it. The vibe became too top heavy for me. I wanted more low energy in the bass regions to balance out the passion in the guitar parts. Open up those lower chakras bro!!! I think this is what they meant by "add more dynamics". If you pushed us back in our chairs when the guitar was rocking and then dropped everything out but the piano and drums, it would be like a great roller coaster ride. If you did that, the simple melody you have would be perfect IMO.Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Rather than trying to re-write the whole song from scratch ( pun) I'm converting it to a world music crossover piece by inserting a few real sitar parts into it. After all - as a player that's my strength. And I'm cranking up some of the bass parts per your suggestion too - you have good ears - thanks!BTW: for those who were kind enough to listen & comment, you might be interested to know that you heard my mono version of the file due to a mistake on my part . The stereo version of the original version would have been more interesting but probably not a winner.-Allen

Re: Decision time. Any Advice?
Hello All,I have replaced my original song "Scratch 100" with a new sitar flavored version titled "Sitar Suspense". My theory is that the clearer Mid-East vibe justifies my creative decision to present a repetitive melody (when it was a guitar-only song the ear naturally expected modulated sections in the song structure). So now I'm hoping it'll be picked up as the perfect background song for a crime show set in New Delhi. Yeah, right! LOL Anyway I'm ready to move on to the next project. Please give it a listen - maybe I'm missing something again . Thanks again to everyone who contributed sound advise.-Allen

Allen, finally I can have a listen to your work, now when BJ lets me play them here at work.I say good work, and all thumbs up (which means two in my case) I couldn't listen to the 'Scratch 100' version, but the Sitars should most likely give the melody a boost in the ears of the screener? The only thing that didn't work for me was the panning of the distorted guitar, which I think was a little bit too much 'in your face'. I'd maybe back off a little on the panning depth.Well, that was my two cents... Other than that, don't they have a Bollywood version of CSI, it'd be a winner for that!

The slick investigator running out into the street with DNA results held high. The he bursts into song and dance, with 10 women in Sari's dancing synchronously behind him.
