Way to go Mazz..hopefully you will be hearing from the Library soon..that really was a fun little piece..Like Steve, I submitted to this listing and got the same message as he did..so you're not alone Steve... I submitted "Catch Me If You Can" taxi.com/rebekahjanellmusicI don't know, maybe some of you guys can take a listen and give me some pointers on the sound/production that might help me in the future. I know I've got a long way to go but I'm trying to be a student of the craft.

hi jbeck,I have to say, I've found this thread really interesting. I had a listen to 'Catch me if you can'. It's very nicely done, but it made me think of Austrian chaps in leather shorts leaping around more than it did a circus. Not that that's a bad thing, but maybe it didn't help in this particular case. (love Carrie's song, btw )
It's a fine line between a thick soup and stew.

But I haven't been on a carousel for a while and I don't remember the playlist on that one that well I had a listen to some of your pieces and I think you are a very accomplished pianist and musician. A couple of your pieces really have that passion that you talk about in your bio.The streaming mp3 quality from TAXI isn't that great so I can't make detailed comments about the production but there are a few general things I noticed:1. The overall sound is pretty bright, it appears to be in the 3-6Khz range, which is right in the range where the ear is already sensitive. This may be exacerbated by the mp3 quality but I think overall you could use some EQ cutting in that area. 2. Overall your sounds are good but not great. As I'm sure you know, learning the production end of things is pretty much like learning another instrument. If you haven't studied production much or at all, there may be classes at the local college that can give you a foundation and some hands on experience with mixing, etc. that you can directly apply to your own productions. Keep up the good work, looking forward to hearing more.Mazz

It might have been that the odd deal with it sounding like two separate songs was the culprit. When I listened to it, that didn't seem to me like it would fly.Personally I thought that the first "section" was on target. You might have to consider the good possibility that you missed the target by only a whisker. Unfortunately it doesn't take a country mile to miss a listing and I think that might have been the case here - the odd format and not so much the music . Dave

Hi mazz, I have been having difficulty listening to your music because of my slow dialup. It stops to catch up every 4 seconds or so. Tonight I was able to hear a couple of them without breaks and I was very impressed. Your circus song really set the mood you were looking for. Were most of the songs on your page created for listings? They all have a very cinematic feel. Your dynamics are great. I did miss presence in the instrumentation but that may be my dialup again. The piano in the songs I listened to sounded unclear and compressed to me. It could be my ears tho so don't take offense. I like your stuff overall. I can see if I do submit here that I will have to write some new things directed towards the listings. All the work I have now are complete songs. I sure would like to have some good gear, Yours sounds great. thanks for letting me listen.

Hi Donny,Thanks for the feedback, it means a lot to me.I'm not sure if you noticed the little setup window in the broadjam player. If not, you can change the setup to dialup on there and it may improve things as far as streaming goes. I think it sends the stream at a lower bit rate, not sure.As far as writing to listings, I can say that doing that has been one of the things that has motivated me to write my tail off for the past year or so and I highly recommend it to keep the writing chops up. Take care and thanks again,Mazz
