Does this shift too much?

Post by soulwire » Tue Feb 20, 2007 12:16 pm

I was wondering if I could just get some opinions on a song that I wrote, if you guys have a moment of course. I just wrote it over the weekend and it shifts through three different phases, so it doesn't follow a very conventional song structure. Well, I was just wondering if you guys think shifting like that would make it incredibly difficult to really place with Taxi? It's a downtempo, electronic instrumental piece and is a bit more experimental than what I'm used to writing.http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... =231778668

I sure like how it grows. I bet it could find a home. It's quite well-mixed also. From the conversations I've had, there are many Taxi opportunities for pieces like this. Nice piano samples, whad'ja use? And your bubbling percussions are great too. You might cut back on the synth thing towards the end, that sound seems out of context to me, but what do i really know? I think the piano alone with the percussion in section 3 might have more mystery without the synth thing. My favorite part of it is around 2:35. I like how the filter gradually lets the drums in from there as well. And thanks for starting that awesome thread about "Would You Rather" Newbies (OK, like me) often seem to want to shake things up, but your discussion really brought something special. Funny how so many people thought there was a more right or wrong answer.Best of luck.steve

Hey thanks sgs4u, I appreciate the comments. I'm still pretty new to Taxi (started late December) and so I've only just begun to pitch my music to the industry. The piano samples are from East West Colossus, it's my favorite synth of all time. Thanks for the suggestion too. I was trying to keep variation and interest and that's why I used that synth at the end instead of the piano/drum sequence, but I'll check it out w/o the synth and see how it feels. What about it felt out of place, was it too trancy sounding? And thanks for starting that awesome thread about "Would You Rather" Newbies (OK, like me) often seem to want to shake things up, but your discussion really brought something special. It was really cool to hear other people's opinions, and also to watch how the thread breathed it's own life. I was just curious what people would choose if they had to choose one of two answers. Strangely got misinterpreted and shot left field to artistic integrity vs. commercialism, but it's all good. There were some very thoughtful answers.
