Hi AllGot back in the studio last week to lay this new one down. This is just a rough mix & i've got to add some sexy sax toit later this week. Friends are telling me this is the besttrack I've done so far, personally I'm not convinced so anyinput or comments you have would be welcome. Thanks in advancePhilGunning For You:http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplaye ... 78521&q=hi

Hey Phil,Very cool track. Just catchy all around and well engineered. A lot of times I listen to these and think how they would go over at the Taxi Rally when they play random member tracks to get the audience response. This would get a great response IMHO. As an official "old guy" I loved the (now) retro clavinet/rhodes break paired up with the modern synth bass line around the 1:30 mark. Good stuff,Dave

Good track! I see this more as country-pop if I had to give it a genre...I like it! Casey

What the %^& do you know about music anyway? All you do is sit on the couch with Oprah all day! Most electronica is pure instrumental (am I right?)... Yes, there a bit of electronica in the backing track but this is Shania country-pop all the way!!! That's a good thing. I would re-record it or have it re-recorded with a backing track that supports that genre. I think it could be a killer film/TV replacement track for a Shania tune! Casey

Quote:Most electronica is pure instrumental (am I right?)... Ahah! Therein lies the erroneous assumption. If you listen to a generic Electronica station you'll get a good mix of both instrumental and vocal tracks. Probably could be classified as Pop Remix. The beginning sounds a lot like a track that's being used for a Verizon Chocolate ad (phone) as well as a promo for Nip/Tuck.A couch, chocolate bon-bons, and Oprah... my new life. Dave

Very nice track. I agree with the "country" potential, though in it's present form it sounds very 80's. The chord structure and melody lean toward a very current pop/country genre - Shania meets Carrie Underwood. IMHO this could be a VERY STRONG song in that arena. My suggestions... the verse lyrics are pretty generic and don't really tell a story. If you took that great "gunning for you" hook and incorporated that kind of imagery in the verses this very good song could be great. I mean, what does a playground have to do with gunning? Same with the bridge--- musically it goes somewhere, but the generic lyrics water it down. Even the chorus could use some "gunning".With some tweaks, I think there is a hit song in there. Would you be open to some lyric options? Have pen, will transcribe....Aub

I think the fact that Dave and Casey can't agree what style it is points to an inherent issue with this track (also hinted at by Aub): The song itself and its production aren't the best match, commercially speaking. The production is sort of "electronic", although not Electronica, but a bit dated and 80's sounding, whereas the song itself would lend itself to contemporary country pop. Of course it works as an 80's tune as well, but that's a rather "specialized" market niche... I agree that if this song was produced a la Shania Twain, you'd have a great tv/film song. If you'd like to pitch the song itself to outside artists, the lyrics need a very substantial improvement IMHO. I agree with Aub that the "Gunning For You" hook needs to be better supported in the rest of the lyric. Gun, weapon, target, hunt, prey etc etc type imagery are things that you might explore in your lyric which would support your title/hook. As it is the hook comes completely out of nowhere. Remember an old adage of good lyric writing: every line needs to lead towards the hook!matto
