Need Help:Genre Identity
I hope this is the right forum for thisI would appreciate some opinions. I am in need of hearing what some of you think my style of music fits into as far as genre. I need to hear what a la's some think the songs might be and where they fit in the listing categories on TAXI. Feel free to make any comments you feel that are constructive . I have 4 songs I would like for those who are kind enough to listen to that I am in need of some opinions. You may hear them on my TAXI page at http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.p ... nnerPlease let me knowThanks Mark Spinner

Hi Mark, I think it's reasonable to ask for the feedback you seek in this section. However, you're looking for a very general assessment based on all of your songs. Purely based on most folk's time constraints, it might be more effective to focus on one (or two, if they're short) at a time. The site is very useful for gaining input, especially if you have WIP.Listening to Comical Persuasions, I don't hear many obvious reference points...maybe some Eric Johnson guitar wise for the lead melody at the start. I'm not sure if you're going for a particular songwriting style here, but lyrically, I think this needs a review - it sounds too basic to me, however I realise I may be missing your intention. Instrumentally, the crash cymbal is very off putting, but you can fix that easily enough. The song has some nice musical touches (ie the opening guitar melody could really go places), and maybe as a shorter instrumental it could be more engaging. The move to acoustic guitar at the chorus offers a nice contrast, and I feel that you could explore that more (especially as there is a key change in there, too), and get more expression and melody with electric guitar and / or keys.

Thanks Scounter72. I appreciate the time you took to listen to Comical Persuasions. When you refer to crash cymbal being off putting do you mean tonally or volume wise or out of place or all of the above? Also when you say WIP, what is that? Thanks

Hello again, Mark. The crash cymbal that appears on a number of occasions throughout the song...sounds like it's been added in over the other drums / percussion, and as such is too high in the mix. It really stands out, and I think should be tamed a whole lot, volume wise. WIP = work in progress. There are some great guys n gals on here who will help you shape a song during its formative stages, especially if you're not too sure about a particular aspect.
