0 for 3 on Rock / Metal - Taking A Break
Listing requirements:ROCK/METAL INSTRUMENTALS in the stylistic range of AC/DC, Metallica, Velvet Revolver, Korn, Incubus, etc., needed by the President/CEO of a Sports Training Music Website. Tracks can range in tempo from 60 to 145 bpm. INSTRUMENTALS ONLY. He specifically stated that all tracks must be recorded with a metronome (meaning timing must be spot on!)Submissions:Action Stations, Get Set Go! & Declare Yourself. All available at my taxi page. Link below. Not sure if it's the associated disappointment of failing so miserably, but I need to take a break from submitting music to TAXI listings. I'm spending money (albeit a little each time) that I no longer have, only to keep getting rejected.I don't know that my music is so far removed from the required criteria, or that I can't seem to match them up very well, or that the bar is too high, or that the briefs are ridiculous. There is apparently no 'range'. I wonder if these submissions were carbon copies of the listed reference bands, something else would be wrong. It's not been very long since I started this trip, and of course I am not giving up, but I'm clearly not getting my music to the right people yet - and I know it's good stuff, if not great (as the adage goes). Please don't misunderstand - I'm disappointed, not bitter. This probably isn't the right vehicle for me at the moment, though it has been very beneficial in so many other ways. I'll still hang out here, compose, contribute feedback, etc. There is a lot of good music here, and a lot of valuable information and advice...which, as it turns out, I could get even if I wasn't a TAXI member.Peace, see you in P2P.Shane

Shane,Sorry to hear about your disappointment. There are times when I wonder why I go through all the effort that it takes to do this stuff. At one point I figured I would just chuck the whole mess. I then reconsidered and thought about the time and money I had invested and how it would all go down the tubes if I did. Besides. if you truly have the gift of music, it's not just something you do. It's who you are, and you can't stop being you! Hang in there! Your stuff sounds great to me. I believe your time will come. DavePS Besides, us Irishmen have to stick together right?

Hey David. Thanks for your words of encouragement. I agree wholly that music is a very integral part of who you are, and I've been doing it for a very long time. There is no way I will be quitting until my fingers say 'no more' ha ha. I love making music, and will always be a composer, even if only in my own bedroom It's just that right now, I'm not hitting the mark here at TAXI. I've submitted 15 pieces and gotten 2 forwards...I think my music is better than that.I feel like the guy who generates a perfectly functional report for the boss (based on the brief), only to be told the font should be dark blue instead of black. I make the mods, take the report back, and now he wants the font size changed...I make the mods, take the report back....you get the picture Now, I'm certainly not afraid of advice, and I've applied an awful lot in recent months...but I'm not getting any better end results (and the numbers are very important in this game)Anyways, I should have added that, as always any feedback on my music would be greatly appreciated. I'm clearly not hearing something (or many things!) that could make a big difference to my batting average.

Shane... I really like Ur sound & Ur tunes...I'm sorry to hear abt Ur current situation & thought I shared something here... Abt 2 months ago I was on the verge of quitting Taxi... I was getting 100% returns for almost 2 months straight...I was going for lots of diff. listings too... It was an extremely demoralizing time then...Luckily I decided to stay on but also decided to be very selective with what I submitted for as a new strategy, also becos I was going broke from all that was spent before on failed submissions...I'm really grateful & glad now that I decided to hang on & continue trying with Taxi instead, cos all it took was 1 forward... & 1 song that got me a really good deal now...I know that it's hard to see it especially at this point in time for ya but I hope U keep trying diff. strategies with the listings submissions cos I hear lots of quality in Ur works & feel that it's just a matter of time U will break thru somewhere, somehow... & I'm pretty sure now after having gone thru my downtime that all the returns previously gained takes us closer to a successful deal...But of course these are just MHO... I just wanted to share what I went thru & hope that this info is of some use... I'm sure I still have lots to learn though...Slowly but surely... Keep the faith...Regards-Kel

Nice one, Kel. Thanks also to you for the encouragement (and ongoing inspiration - as I think you know I love what you do!). I think the reason this one broke my back so to speak is because I thought I had very good matches for the listing. I, too, have chosen to be more selective, especially as there haven't been as many opportunities I could really get behind in recent weeks. It is fun doing other stuff out of my comfort zone, and I will continue to do that for the pure enjoyment of making music. This was a Y/N listing, and I had previously promised myself to leave them alone unless I was absolutely confident. Maybe I'm expecting too much too soon.Undoubtedly, I have had gained a lot from joining TAXI - I genuinely don't underestimate that. A lot of the value is from sharing experiences on these pages. I am continuing to enjoy composing - just not sure if I'm pitching in the right areas at the moment.

shane have to agree with kel on this. I had the same problem getting good reviews with returns until I started to really, really, really target my submissions. It has paid off tremendously and now I am getting forwarded much of the time and saving money on what use to be a shot in the dark submissions. keep it up. it's obvious you have the skills, just hang in there manscotty

Thanks Scotty. I will definitely be more selective - I thought I was (after a few experiments in the earlier days). Guess I will naturally be submitting even fewer songs, as the number of suitable listings (for me) is very small anyways.I'll put up some new music this week, anyhow, see what people think...and for a bit of fun

Hey Shane... I know exactly how you feel... this business makes you bipolar!!! The high of getting a forward vs the low of a return (experienced more than the highs!) . I've been working on emotionally detaching from the submissions and moving forward with new music. I later revisit the return and see if I think I can improve on it if it was on target, or see if there is a better listing fit.Know that you are not alone!Marlin
