I wish there were more (detailed) reviews

Post by markjsmith » Mon Aug 31, 2009 9:55 am

The detailed reviews are really great, I can't stress enough how helpful these are!I have had a few returns back have had no comments at all and just a check next to one the boxes. I totally understand if the client themselves is reviewing that this would be the case (is this the case?), but if not I just wish we had the reviewers expertise on more of our submissions!

Some listings are Yes/No listings--- the listing number starts with "Y" as opposed to "S". The ones where all you got was a checkbox checked and no comments are those. Dispatch listings are also Y/N. Up until about a year ago, Y/N listings didn't even have the checkboxes-- you only knew Y or N. By popular request, taxi added the checkboxes to at least help you know if it was music, lyrics, or production. Sometimes with Y/N or Dispatch listings, the client is doing the review themselves, but not always. Often if that's the case it says that in the listing. The reason for the Y/N type of listing is usually a turn-around time issue.HTH Casey

Thanks Casey, That's really helpful! I always dig the detailed reviews and I'm always too strapped to shell out $20 for the custom critiques (maybe I'm cheap)! Thanks for the info, dug the old pic of you in the lookalike thread! Thanks Again, Mark

Thanks for the info, dug the old pic of you in the lookalike thread! Thanks Again, MarkI've done a few customs and have been very impressed by the level of quality and detail. In fact, I used to occasionally use another song review service for $25... they did a very good job, but I've gotten more out of taxi's for $20. A key thing is to provide a list of questions when asking for the review.I do understand that shelling out money for reviews is costly. There is a lot of great feedback here as a starting point. But one thing about any pro feedback that's good is the person is skilled and there is no friendship or relationship to tilt the response.I am in the process of submitting new songs both to taxi listings and to outside contacts I've made over the years. Many of the taxi listings are "S" listings and I get feedback and know the "why". On the outside it's almost always pure yes or no (advantage taxi) so honing in more on what could be the key decision factors in getting something signed goes a long way. And, of course there are taxi Y/N listings and Dispatch, so knowing how a taxi screener might think helps a lot.If you want to see some samples of custom reviews, drop me a PM. Best, Casey
