Return on Nu Metal listing
Here's the listing:NU METAL INSTRUMENTALS a la P.O.D., Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, etc. are wanted by a very successful Production Music Library who has placements with ABC, CBS, NBC, WB, Disney, Discovery, Lifetime, Fox, USA, etc. (to name just a few). They want tracks that build and grow, with melodic and dynamic variation, for a variety of Film/TV placement opportunities - they need to quickly add to their catalog in this genre. You may consider editing down a full-length song in order to avoid long sections of repetition, since this company NEEDS to have tracks that are changing & building constantly. You can submit tracks that range between 1-4 minutes in length and be sure there are NO VOCALS - they'll be focused on the sound of the guitars/drums for this one (be sure they sound authentic and current!). They want material that sounds like it could be on the radio, but will only be interested in Instrumental versions for this listing. Broadcast quality is necessary, though excellent home recordings should be fine. If you submitted material and/or were forwarded for Dispatch listing # D081230TV, please do not submit the same songs for this listing. This company liked what they've heard so far and wants to hear more. Please submit 1-3 Instrumentals online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than February 9, 2009. TAXI # Y90209NMHere's the song:Buy More Time - http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=trueI thought I nailed this one. Since it was a Y/N listing the only info I have is that the "material not distinctive/compelling enough" box was checked. Any chance this was screened by the listing party? I know they usually say that in the listing when that's the case. Oh well, at least I did a get forward for a different listing today. Still, I'm bummed about this one. Oh well... moving on...- Big Blue

Re: Return on Nu Metal listing
Hey blue.. sonically it sounds very strong to me. guitars are pretty top notch to my ears and stylistically it seems on target. the drums sound good too and I noticed they said special attention to drums and guitars. the song definitely moves and doesn't dwell on any section too long. only thing I can think of is maybe a bit more melodic movement or hook. but at the Rally I heard a lot about how that can be distracting or interfere in pieces like this so I honestly don't know. sorry for the bad news man!

Re: Return on Nu Metal listing
Hey Blue-Two possible reasons for this track not getting through:1. The heavy parts kick @ss and sound awesome, but the more sparse sections with the organ/electric piano melody sound kind of cheesy and weak by comparison, and are perhaps too melodically defined. I'd add more dynamics/life into the strings and choose a much cooler, more aggressive lead/melodic instrument in those sections to keep the attitude up.2. Although the track changes up fairly often, I don't hear any build between the sections; there are just abrupt changes from one section to the next. The listing mentions building/changing/growing several times, and your track seem shy in this area.Great work nonetheless.HTH,André Feb 25, 2009, 11:26am, bigbluebarry wrote:Here's the listing:NU METAL INSTRUMENTALS a la P.O.D., Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, etc. are wanted by a very successful Production Music Library who has placements with ABC, CBS, NBC, WB, Disney, Discovery, Lifetime, Fox, USA, etc. (to name just a few). Hey Big Blue,I also agree with andre, especially regarding the changes. They seem to come out of no where without much build, and just hit you in the face with no warning. That could be cool for a song but since they are asking for TV instrumentals I can see it being a problem. The heavy parts do kick ass and sound awesome! What are you using to get that heavy guitar sound? Amplitude?Nice work.-Steve

Re: Return on Nu Metal listing
Thanks for all the feedback everyone.André... I appreciate your response. I went back and forth with myself over the organ/piano part. I was trying to get the Linkin Park vibe, can't remember which song, it was from the Hybrid Theory album. I'm definitely gonna change that part up some. Not because of one review per se, but because this song is about to become a co-write with Audiorayne. So that section will need to change so it doesn't fight with the vocals. Thanks again for your honesty and constructive feedback.Patrick... I think you're spot on about André being spot on Steve... Thanks! Nope, Guitar Rig 3. For this song, I used my Schecter C-1, tuned the entire guitar down a step, and then dropped the low string another step to get Drop C tuning. I then went from the guitar into my Line6 GearBox DI. From there I went direct out into my Digirack 003. And then from there I used Guitar Rig 3, the Ultrasonic model I believe.Kelvin... thanks man... I understand how you feel. I've had 2 forwards and 12 returns so far in '09. Keep your chin up and keep working at it. - Big Blue

Re: Return on Nu Metal listing
Hey BBB,Excellent piece, love the sound of the guitars!!! Another thing to keep in mind is in Nu-Metal, a lot of synths are used - specially drums, for eg verse drums would be vst and lowered real kit while chorus kicks in with real kit etc... Another thing LP use a lot of are the sine kicks when going into the chorus - I use it a lot, very effective!!!Take CareB

Thanks B... synths and keyboards in general are not my strongsuit, at all. I'm making progress but I still have a ways to go. I"m not 100% certain what you mean.thanks again,- Big Blue
