I believe the sine kicks are when the kick triggers a sine wav (low sub freq) to help boost the kick.

Hmmm... so could that be why when I listen to bands like Sevendust, I not only hear the kick drum cut through the mix, I FEEL it too? Well then, I wanna start doing this little trick myself!!!!- Big Blue

I'm not sure either BBB.... I mean, yes the slow parts are very mellow, but I like that because it makes a major contrast to the heavy parts.I think this is a keeper for a different lister is all. Just my opinion. Very nice. The soft stuff sounds like the Wii console music! Maceman

Yeah, this can be a cool technique if you're not able to get enough low-end out of your kick recording/sample, or if its fundamental frequency happens to step on an important frequency in the bass tone (in which case you probably wouldn't want to bring that out in the kick).A quick, easy, and flexible way to do this is to set up an aux return and run a constant sine wave through it at whatever frequency you want (60Hz is a good starting point). Then put a gate on the aux track, enable its sidechain input, and feed its key input with the original kick track. Adjust threshold/attack/release times and sine frequency/blend to taste, and you're boomin'!André Mar 4, 2009, 9:58pm, bigbluebarry wrote:Mar 1, 2009, 8:33pm, keithl wrote:I believe the sine kicks are when the kick triggers a sine wav (low sub freq) to help boost the kick.I just came across a web site that had an article about this. Maceman... Thanks, I'm definitely gonna keep it. I think I mentioned earlier that Audiorayne is gonna put some vocals on this one. I CAN'T WAIT to hear what he has in mind! André... Thanks for the how-to on the sine kicks! I've got a Sevendust type song that is just screaming for this kind of thing on the kick drums! SWEEET!!!- Big Blue

Hey BBB,I guess everyone's beaten me to the punch, but yeah that's what the sine kick is... you can even find some samples of em on the net if you don't feel like creating your own.

Thanks for checking back in Brad... I believe I have a signal generator plug-in in Pro Tools. Now I know something I can use it for - Big Blue

My problem with the sine kick is that I would probably master it right back out as being too loud... Go figure.BlueI listen to your stuff and I love it! Sorry the track got returned.Keith
